New 408 build finally started

Oh sorry, it was for the tools for the job. I quoted mbaird to call attention to him specifically, but your tool would do! LOL!

I just have the peen tool. I’d like to do this job myself as well.

PBR, what kind of rings do you like to use?

This build has .043 Wiseco rings in it. I got a nice package deal for them when I bought two sets of the Wiseco Pistons I am using for this build. Overstock sale. I use a lot of Hasting Piston rings and Speedpro too.

Not many updates lately guys. Between spending time getting my racing receipts gathered up and mileage figures totaled so I can get my taxes done I haven’t hit the shop as much. I also found some skin cancer on my face over by my right sideburn a couple of weeks ago that I have to get operated on tomorrow morning. then hopefully Sunday or Monday when it warms up some I can get this block scrubbed down and start putting it together next week. I used my new long 9/32 drill bit tonight and drilled my main bearing oiling holes through my tubed block. Boy were the factory oiling holes in this block restricted. These holes needed opened up real bad.

My father in law gets some kind of cancer on his skin once in a while.

They get it off quick. He's going to be 83 in August.

Hope it goes well. That is serious.

I drilled a couple extra oil drainback holes in the valley on both sides. If anyone needed so thread chasers I bought these pretty cheap from Summit and they work pretty nice. Part number is on the bottom of the package in the picture

x2 on that skin cancer
melanoma is a killer
thanks for the thread chaser tip
bottom taps cut too much
now put the mains in the block and align the oil holes
I broke one of those 9/32 drills when I hit a broken factory drill in a hole one time
it had been oiling around the flutes
sometimes the holes are not drilled full size all the way through when factory drills have been sharpened one to many times

I got that skin cancer hacked out yesterday so now I wait for the test results to make sure they got it all. Hopefully find out at my follow up appointment next Wednesday. Time to hit the shop again.

HOLY MOLY!

That stuff is damn Insidious! Glad you did what you did and got what you got taken care of.

Everybody get checked
skin cancer, prostate, colon etc
Bob Marley died of Melanoma under his big toenail
My best friend had a smaller spot on his neck than Pittsburg: blond, blue eyes, boats, waterski, surfer
took 7 years but it got him

Those stepped galleries are a trap, I'd been building SB Mopars for years before I realised they needed dealing with, you can't even feel them when you brush them out either. Hope everything is good on your results, great post , Thank you.

Well I was blessed with a beautiful 48 degree day to push my Duster out of its garage bay for the day and get this filthy block washed down today. Lord willing it will be going back together this week and finished up so I can get grinding on my heads again. Ohhh it’s a small uphill grade to get back into the shop so as much as I hate to do it it may have to start my Duster up to get it back in. Voom voooooom.

I just want to say Pittsburgh remember chicks love facial scars LOL. But seriously that's quite the cut it's amazing how doctors always make it sound like it's going to be a piece of cake and for me never really seems to go that way. But I hope you're feeling better and I just want to tell you I so appreciate your posts you're the real deal thanks man!

Finally a little forward progress. Finished up my number 5 main cap oiling mods and got the crank all torqued up. I’m set up to start grinding piston rings hopefully tomorrow after a quick trip to the gym. Slow but sure on these rings as they are .043 rings and get a little expensive and time consuming if you mess one up.
