New 408 build finally started

What end gap are you shootin for?

I’ll let you know tomorrow. I’ve threatened to put a 200-300 hit if nitrous on my bracket engines for now on for top end play. But I may wait till I rebuild my 422 to do it. Probably never happen but it would be nice to have a couple hundreds in your back pocket when needed.

I’m set up to start grinding piston rings hopefully tomorrow after a quick trip to the gym. Slow but sure on these rings as they are .043 rings and get a little expensive and time consuming if you mess one up.

When you were younger you would have filed those rings by hand!!

Lazy *** mo fo's lol
What end gap are you shootin for?

Hey I never said I wasn’t lazy, as a matter of fact I fessed up to being lazy, and CHEAP!!! Lol

Ok I decided to go with .020 top ring and .022 bottom ring. I just finished doing them just now. Turned the heat up a little and the stereo a lot and went to town. I haven’t had a set of rings go so well as it did tonight. My mind was wondering a little during my breaks sitting here looking at my black Duster knowing it’s more or less race ready and the St Patrick’s Race is coming up in the middle of March. It’s put on by my buddy Michael Beard and his friend and is a well run race. Hmmmm, does the 422 have one more four day race weekend in it???? Man I loved that race when I went a couple of years ago and I even went some rounds. It was killing my son Matt watching it in the computer at home. Lol

Creedence Clearwater Revival and Spiral Locks kinda night. This sucker will be going together real soon.

My buddy ask for assistance gatherings parts for a 283 for his old Corvette and I know is probably going to want assistance building it. He’s a really really good longtime friend but honestly I’m not that interested. The car had sat for probably over 25 years and now that he’s in his 60’s it’s go time.

Better late than never I suppose. Build him something that will make him need a clean pair of shorts.

sure like a 383 or 400 that looks like a 283
we built a lot of 4x4 283's 6" rod
ran them on carbs, injectors and blown fuel
cranks back then were Moldex steel but lots of choices now
keep the small crank pin or Honda pin makes it easier to clearance
and you have to run small base circle on the cam
we were running stock other GM brand 6" rods
today you can get rods with stroker clearance
what fun

This would be way over his head and I don’t have the time. My race season starts in April and I have a hard enough time getting myself up for my jobs. He wants a nice sounding hydraulic cam engine that will run on premium fuel with a little get up and go. Im a one man team.

Tell him to mill a set of 2.02 heads and use the old 350 hp hydraulic cam, headers and it'll run 15' s and sound lumpy.

don't need 202s on a street 283
1.95 is more than plenty
2.02 makes it soft
well if he has 4:11 gears and a 4 speed then FUN

In the middle of 265/283 as well, and 4 other builds now... Busy is the word, just like that.
