my last post isn't meant to point at anyone in particular... and the high road comment isn't intended to stop here on FABO..

The only place i say the F word on here is in the N&P forum.
I consider that an ''adults only'' section.
If ladies look there and are shocked, they haven't read the disclaimer of being ''thick skinned'' before they view posts on there.
Strangely enough, the T.V. is full of movies 24/7 that have a lot of F-bombs being said frequently, and a lot of people shrug it off and don't say anything about it.
How about the risque commercials?
News is full of graphic violence, sexuality, and adult discussions, but no disclaimer there.
They will bleep out the swearing and racist comments, but show and discuss the violence in graphic detail.
On this site, i feel it's all about manners, it's why i don't care for the swearing other than a few minor ones such as the S word, the B word and a few other minor ones.
The world and society are changing with the times, and things that were socially unacceptable years ago are considered fine now, and visa/versa.
For example, where i live, the convenience stores have all of the tobacco products behind a curtain so the public (primarily people under 18) don't see them, but the porno mags are in plain view.
20 years ago, it was the opposite.
I can't figure it out either.............
C'est la vie.

my last post isn't meant to point at anyone in particular... and the high road comment isn't intended to stop here on FABO..

easy enough to pull the "high road, better than thou" card. Just so folks know, and they do know, there is a higher road.

it was very easy to "pull that card" - I read all the posts in this thread... as long as one doesn't believe that taking said high road makes them somehow better than those who choose to speak their mind and use a bit of more "colorful" language here and there - then it's all good, to each his/her own

Some of you undoubtedly know I can "get upset." But the fun, the information, the all of it on here far far outweighs the little glitches along the way.

as said before, women and children are on this site, and therefore no place for the "f" word, in my opinion. and if refraining from using that word is "taking the high road" then so be it. and if anyone thinks that I think I;m "better" than anyone else, then they do not know me at all.

trying to have manners should never be apologized for.

I admit to usisng the word "chi*" as here in the country it is as common a commodity and basic to life here as "dirt"! ha

Well here comes my 3 cents as expected...I grew up in a small town, and NEVER the F-word till I was in about 4th grade. Women didn't curse at all, and men tried not to, when they did, it was "damn it" or "sh*t."

For those who aim to follow the bible, there are several references about not using foul language.

Personally I feel there's enough ugliness in the world, why should I want to add more to it?

FABO is "better than" other Mopar sites in many ways. It only benefits us to make it a family-friendly place so if a child is interested in learning, a parent can let them come here without having to worry.

Just because "everyone does it" or "we hear it in the media" doesn't mean we HAVE to follow suit. You choose the words that come out of your mouth, and even more intentionally when you TYPE words...

since this is a discussion forum, I will discuss. let me make this point. do we consider the fact we adults can be "looked up to" by younger people, just because we own a car they consider cool, awesome? cool parts, tools, equipment? perhaps they look up to our knowledge and abilities automotive wise. role model whether wished for or not????

if sometime in that young person's future, for example, they have the opportunity to sell someone a faulty part for the sake of a $$, to curse like a sailor, or do anything not considered to be the right thing.... I don't want to them to see me doing such and figure its O K... something to think about.

sort like dad driving and texting, and then telling his kids NOT to do such, as it is unsafe and irresponsible?

last year I was reading comments in Facebook in my 17 yr old granddaughters page ( or whatever ya call it), her girlfriends were dropping the "F bomb" right and left. I assume it made them feel "more grown up", more sexy???? ( sounded like some under aged sluts to me). maybe part of growing up these days?? I have to wonder what their everyday language consists of. I just hope their parents taught them BETTER!

Have any of you been to an elementary school playground lately?

It's not Chutes and Ladders. :)

I'll side on the team that says keep the F bomb out of forums besides the blue forum and n&p.

Just because society is going down the drain doesn't mean this forum has to.

See folks mentioning women and kids being on this site... hmmm...so let me get this straight.....people don't use foul language around their spouses and kids? Talk about being naive......
Rules are rules, simple as that. Havingood a few different mental ailments has taught me a think or two about the art of justifying things.....which, in my world, is exactly what that line of ladies and kids is. Once folks start with the justification crap I lose all respect for them. Not that it means much coming from me.
We live in a governed society. Simple as that. Why can't folks just accept that? We live in a world of rules, whether you like it or not. So your post got edited....last I checked the earth hasn't gotten tossed off its axis so all is still well....

I have found myself holding my tongue around other peoples wives and children meanwhile they are spewing language worse than a night at the local cowboy club lol

I guess I mention my disrespect to women as in people posting inappropriate pictures that expose like a porno site, and plenty of examples in the postings throughout this site. So onward we go, clan ! :eek:ops:

Nothing in my avatar that relates to **** in my opinion. 3 girls doing a car wash, wearing a swimming suit that can be seen everyday at your local swimming pool. I took my 7 year old grandson to swimming lessons last summer. Swimming instructors dressed very similar.

What I find interesting is the OP Louie has been on FABO several times today, but has yet to respond to the truth about what transpired posted above.....And just for the record, I didn't delete his f-bomb, so please don't whine to ME. I posted because I was defending the Mod Squad we have on board now....

If you're going to complain about the Moderation going on here, please have the decency to apologize when you've made a mistake.

We ALL make them from time to time. I'm human last time I checked :D

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^this^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Man up Louie.admit your mistake.

Wasn't really directed at you... but today while browsing the normal sites like "small block mopar", there was a girls bare butt poking out at ya, and a girls top hanging out (literally) at ya. That, my friend, is pornography, because it's meant to be "revealing, sexy, attractive", or whatever else you call it. People will post "other" peoples daughter revealing themselves, just so it isn't their daughter, or wife, or granddaughter.

but I'll just throw out that those girls in your picture are probably wearing less than their normal underwear. It is kind of funny how most girls won't go out in public in just underwear, but they will wear less in public and call it a bikini.... Morale decay is only one of the downfalls in society.... along with rapidly growing disrespect of todays youths. Many want to mask it as "expression", but I'm willing to call it what it is, decay. sorry, little off topic

nope - no ****, but it is provocative - honestly, even I think it is a tad unnecessary. I assure you my wife would pop a F-ing cork if I pulled into a car wash being done by scantily clad 20 somethings.. let alone set up a cake shot and took pictures to prove to all I was there.. just sayin'....

For those who aim to follow the bible, there are several references about not using foul language.

Uh-huh.

David, you know I love you, Brother, but there's a certain naivete to statements such as this.

Christ Himself was given to being caustic, disrespectful, sarcastic, and generally being a pain in the *** at times. His message never changed, but they way He delivered that message did, on several occasions, depending on who He was addressing.

I can point out several passages where He was being those things above.

That being said, let's take a look at caustic language and a delivery of the message. I, personally, call it street evangelizing. Paul said pretty much the same thing. "When I am with ____, then I do as ____ does." It gains trust. When Paul was with the fishermen all day, given certain speech patterns, certain habits, and certain language am I supposed to believe that Paul didn't drop an (historic) f-bomb every once in a while? I'm sure he did.

I've been witness to how effective it can be. While I worked at one of the national chains we had a "regional VP" who considered himself to be somewhat of a "holy roller." He never swore, but by God, he could preach a good game that I'm sure would have made Christ Himself do a face palm. One day he was lecturing a co-worker about the Prayer of Jabez and how it benefited his life. I had to walk away. This man's theology was all about how God favored him above all others. Hardly something someone should be preaching to a person who was "on the fence" about his beliefs.

Once the "VP" was done with his lecture my co-worker sought me out. He point blank looked at me and said, "now what's the truth?" He saw through the man's lies and wanted me to explain to him what wasn't a lie. Not only was my knowledge sought out, but there's a certain hypocrisy involved when one holds themselves to a higher standard and then breaks that standard at the drop of a hat. That's what the VP did, on several occasions. This was but one of them.

But, you see, there was also a trust factor involved. I told off color jokes and laughed when others told them. I looked at beautiful women just as my co-workers did. I used course language, just as my co-workers did. It's who I am, but it's also part of who God made me. I'm a mechanic by trade, someone who works with his hands, someone who's in an environment that's full of these things. It also made me "one of the guys," who the others were able to view as honest, with them as well as himself.

Do I watch my language in "polite" company? Of course, I do. I don't walk into a church and drop the F-bomb. But, there's a harm in that, too. Men communicate differently when it's just men. That ability to communicate has to be suspended in "polite" company. This, for the most part, is a site compromised of men. Should we ask men to not be men for the benefit of those who aren't men? Is that being fair to the men who come here to communicate in a way that men do?

Let's dig up an old thread, shall we?

tell Jethro I said hi. are you for real ? or just almighty.
I will assure you I couldn't care less what you think, nor do I need your blessings on my opinions. I think for the vast majority of the population, decency has left, and that's my opinion. IF my standard is "higher" than yours, as you may put it, it doesn't mean my nose is in the air, it means I like things differently than you.

your standard just fits the thread your replying to.
as it does for others on this board.

sorry I'm a little late to respond (seeing how I was the one who questioned how you related swearing with scarcely clad ladies)
I totally agree with you that your avatar is not something that is hidden on the outskirts of society...but that does not mean it is something I want my 6 year old son to see

as a matter of fact, it bothers me when I go to the pool and women are dressed in clothes that (in my opinion) dress in something that should be reserved for their husbands

personally, I think it is disrespectful to the young women in the pictures because it forces (maybe forces is a big word...entices?) men to view them in the wrong light

one more thing to consider
according to the Pew Research center, 12% of adults view pornography at least once a month
some of those have no problem with it, while for others it is a moral dilemma, something they find repulsive, but find themselves returning too anyway

now, I'm not speaking of the group of **** users who see no problem with their viewing habits, but only of the group that does not want to keep viewing this, but is addicted to it.

for that group, seemingly "innocent" images as your avatar may be enticing and may be the one image that draws them back into darker images or videos

And as a parent it's up to you as to what your child is to learn. Contrary to popular opinion, it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes parents. As such, you're the person who's most involved in your six year old's life.

So, your choice is clear: don't take your six year old to the pool or use it as a teaching moment. It's not up to someone else to raise your kids for you. And to ask everyone else to isolate themselves for your convenience is wrong on your behalf, as it's up to you to make the most of the situation with your child.

The young ladies in question must not see it that way as they posed for the picture. If they had an issue with it, then I'm sure they would have bowed out.

And before anyone says, "yeah, but they didn't know it would be posted on the internet" that's a fallacy in the fact they were dressed like this for a public car wash.

Ummm...

Ever been through or sat in on rehab?

It's a personal responsibility thing. Most addicts will blame an outside influence for the addiction to begin with. What it comes down to is no one forced you to become an addict to begin with. You did solely by choice. Your choice. Not someone else's. And that's what most rehab will tell you.

To say that one has to censure himself for fear of an addict relapsing denies that personal responsibility on the addict. Something the addict has worked long and hard to take on oneself.

I've tried to quit smoking several times. It's not because I'm around a smoker that's the problem, it's because I choose to smoke. If I sit in a room full of smokers, then it's my fault if I light up again, not their's.

Ever seen one innocently ask a recovering alcoholic if the alcoholic wants a beer? That person usually has no idea that the other is recovering. Now, when he (or she) finds out, he (or she) feels like a dick for offering to begin with. It's not his (or her) fault that he innocently offered something that he had no clue about. And, at that point, it's up to the addict to take the offer or not. Innocently asking didn't lead the addict back down the road of addiction, the addict did himself when he accepted the offer.

I do enjoy reading on FABO, whether it be this general discussion or the big block thread, parts for sale... whatever. enjoy the info, suggestions, what others are doing, thinking...hearing others points of view like on gen. discussion and this particular thread. helps keep me atuned to the rest of the world, unsensored, ....unlike the 6 o'clock NBC News??

some of what I gather, is, no use letting the small things keep us away from here. good point. great site. shed it like water off a ducks back. ( ducks shed water very well)

if wrong, no use making a point to say i'm wrong, let it go. no problem. our blood pressure remains lower if we don't have to man up and admit to anything, right or wrong? O K besides , sorta like an x wife, " not always right, BUT never wrong". ???

language. cursing is part of manhood. without some good cursing, might be considered a wimp, sissy, or worse? a well placed curse word get the point across when our vocabulary goes blank. kids start adult sized cursing in elementary school. all women have heard such, should not be offended. this is a male oriented site, as in auto stuff is male, and any women that venture here, do so at your own risk of being offended? man up! or woman up! suck it up, or whatever it takes. everyone gets the point, no "f" words needed.. O K

mention dislike for cursing, mention right and wrong, offensive video/pictures, etc and risk being placed in the group that is maybe hypocritical and somewhat not within the "guy" group? smacked my finger on the @#&^&^# car other day, cursed like some younger folks never heard..... anywhere. my place in the male world is secure for many months. do I feel bad about it.? yes. anyone hear me. yes. the Man above.

other than all this, what did I learn? seems like I can spend that $30 for a Gold Certificate, and go into the political forum, and voice my opinions, with some choice statements emphasized with the "F" word!!

All good points Robert, and I generally agree with all of them

and I'm sure you noticed I was "telling people what to do" (or at least, I didn't intend too)
I was merely trying to shine a light on a few different point of views that might be circling the forums
