Post your 10 second combo

-
I just started drag racing this year. My best pass so far is 10.96 at 130mph. The car is a 74 Dart Sport 4 speed with a 500" pump gas stroker and 3.73 gears. Its getting 4.10's this winter and that will help a ton. I'm only going through the traps at 5,800 rpm Shifting at 6,800. I think it should get into the 10.5 range next season.

You should definitely be running quicker than high 10s at 130 MPH. I'm running 10.20s at a best of 129... I see you had traction issues in the video. If that's the norm I would work on the chassis/tires before the gear change.

The big block stroker motor really doesn't need the low gears to get into it's power band since the power band is so dang wide :D I'll be honest with you, I made that same change, 3.73 to 4.11 with my 512BB and barely saw a .1 improvement. My chassis and motor are working in harmony. According to the calculators I really can't go any quicker with the MPH the I'm running.

If you haven't already played with the calculators here's a good link:

BTW, I see you race at 'da Grove. I was just there for a visit in August. That was my home track in the late '70s early '80s.

Thanks for the reply and info. This motor really likes rpm. It does pull very hard up top. My best 60' was 1.65. This pass was a 1.77. The reason I think 4.10's will help a lot is because of the launch. I'm having issues getting it to launch with the 3.73's. Either bogs or spins. This launch was at 6,000rpm and it obviously spun but that was my fastest pass because there was no bog. It's just a street car that I started playing at the track with this year for fun. And yes it is Union Grove.

What do you have for your rear suspension? I'm running CalTrac bars, Rancho adjustable shocks and 10.5" slicks.

3" relocation with Super Stock springs. Rancho shocks in rear with 90/10's in front. I had old 10.5" M/T slicks on this pass. I will try to get more vids up this week. What are your 60' times?

Nice car
One of the class racers (Jeff) says 1320/MPH=optimum ET! So that being said if you get the suspension working properly you're headed for a 10.15
The clutch will thank you for 4.10s or might consider 4.30s. You might also try shifting at 6200 to 6400

Thank you. I'm afraid 4.30's will be too much for the 1/4 at 130. 4.10's should put me around 6,500 at the stripe. The motor made peak hp at 6,500-6,600 on the Dyno. I will play around with shift points next season.

I'm in the low 1.40s for my 60' time.

Keep the combos coming!

Don't let it turn tech. Start up a thread on this/that.

:eek:ops:
looked like the car porposed on the leave. (unloaded the tires). are your shocks long enough?

68 Dart, Bracket racer only. 3,050 lbs with me in it. Freshened it this summer and made some upgrades. Car is now .3 quicker with the same camshaft. I tried a Lunati cam and bent push rods and broke two rockers on the first run down the track. I think it was too aggressive for my Crane valve train set up, so I put the MP 557/296 cam back in and it runs awesome! First race after I changed the cam and repaired the valve train I won! (54 car field)

365 (.030 over 360)that has a cast crank, forged flat tops and forged rods. Rods have been polished and lightened. Block has been decked and squared. Mopar Performance mechanical 557/296 cam, degree'd and installed straight up at the 110 centerline.

W2 small chamber heads (55 or 58cc depends who you talk to) 2.02/1/60 valves with mild port job especially around the throat of the valves, crane 1.5 rockers for the W2, offset shaft, aluminum stands custom length pushrods, etc. to support the W2 head. Approx comp. of 12.8 to 1 (up from 11.5 to one)

Indy intake with a Demon 750 carb

Roadrunner (local shop) 4500 stall converter with a 727 foot brake trans.

8.75 rear with 4.57 gears, super stock springs, snubber, 30.0 X 9" Hoosier drag radials. (less rollng resistance, great tire!)

Best of 10.83 at 119.97 with a 1.47 60'

Car is consistent as hell and virtually maintenance free. Just cool er' down between rounds and go mow em' down!

Was wondering anybody running tens with a smallblock 4 speed combo ? I'm hoping my 410 stroker 4speed can get me there

What's the car run now in the 1/4 or 1/8??If you don,t have the best of the best 4 speed parts(Trans, clutch, scatter shield etc..)you,d be money and time ahead building, running an auto with a good converter.JMO

2nd time to the track with the Duster project car. The goal was to build a 10 second drag car.
Little River Texas, 90 degrees and humid, motor is popping a little, plugs showed lean to okay, time to change jets and maybe timing. Seems to hook okay, dies after burnouts:
