Here is a link for the starting of the build, I'm sure you can do this by what is in the photos so far. We have not finished the photo build. If you have any other questions just ask I will try to help.

Now that we have this to work with!! Thanks to Charlie S this build will start this week! This is Charlies 65 Valiant at the shop ready for the 170 to get installed!!! :toothy10:
We will be building three different styles of headers for this application. This meaning the headers I will design and sell, will fit 63-76 A-Bodies With or without Power Steering 170-225 motors!! This is what I was shooting for. Thanks for everyones input on this build. 8)

Glad to see this project is well underway. I think you said the headers will fit with the stock 1 barrel, super six 2 barrel, and Clifford/Offy 4 barrel manifolds in the early A Body. I suspect they would fit with the twin Offy manifold as well. I've got a couple of more exotic intakes I would like to use on my slants - a triple Weber and a triple SU. Both manifolds measure about 6 1/2 to 7 inches in manifold length and extend out and up at a slight angle. Both require headers. I realize you don't have these manifolds to test fit - think your headers would work with my exotics along with power steering in an early A?

Yes you are correct. They fit all you stated but this style of intake, water heating area makes this thicker. I can only check what I have. I would build a set around any intake design you might have. We just need it for the build.I can't say for sure without. Now the 170 is in the car!!!

I am taking some measurements now without power steering. We will install it soon. This combination will be tight. I started with the short tube headers first.
I will increase the primary pipe size during the construction of these. If room allows.

The PowerPipe-TC turbo header that is pictured in this thread was finished and will be track tested this season. We are working on A different design, this style will mount the turbo close to the motor. Should hit the site for sale February or March. Thanks for asking Don

    Thanks guys,
Stock starter will work just fine with these!! A mini would be better yet.

The clifford intake drops on the outside, to many water ports on this thing
    [IMG]
    Don't think that a P/S box will be a problem, yes it's A 170 in a 65 Valiant.

More on these soon. Happy new year to all MNM Don

in reference to 170 vs. 198/225? 170's are a short deck height and the 225's are taller

So no negligible difference to ground clearance really ?

I'm guessing on s couple of variables but I ran some numbers through PipeMax and it is saying best primary size should be 1 1/2", primary tube length as close to 32" as you can (shorter is not better), collector size of 2 1/2", collector length of 20". This is for a typical 225 cid with a mild performance cam, 9.8:1, and horsepower peak around 5500. So it looks like you are close.

which is why mopar [j&r headers] sold the 1 1/2 primary tube/3'' collector 'full length' header for the slants.

thos were a great design, how they were put together was lacking though...the ports were not level across the flange and I had to cut and fiddle them...puls they captured the big starter. fwiw

Some of the long tubes that were built in the past not by me, are known to hang low. Not good for a lowered car for sure.
