PowerPipe Exhaust for slant/6

-
Hello ChasRam, we will also make a 2 into 1 y pipe from headers for single connection to muffler. This will become 1 pipe near trans mount. Soon as we finish these sets they will go up for sale!!! I just recived what I needed to finish the run. One set will be going to Charlies near the Garlits museum. We have some work to do. Going to install a 170 into his 65 Valiant with a power steering box for fitment in the early A-Body's

I know they fit my 225 Duster just fine now. See yall later Don. M-N-M SWEEEET

Hey Don, I am going to go the 'dual exhaust' route on my 70 Swinger. I dont know but I just cant see all that work into getting two headers then making them one again. To me it kind of defeats the purpose of dual exhaust. I know like I said, people I know with headers have gone this single route but for me its something different as usual. Hows the progress going on the headers by the way?

I just read again and realized you live near where I lived and the place my son was born. Used to live in Brooksville on Rt 41 just south of Rt 98 that used to be the site of a small white house and a bunch of Darts strewn around the yard.

PowerPipe-DC true flow header design (with merge collectors)

We have tacked the front 1/2 together and the clearance is 1 ¾” over the power steering box. This should leave us plenty room for engine movement and drop for the 170 in my 72 Duster. The rear is completed and tacked as well, these will have a little better drop clearance of 2”.
wink.gif
Both of these will still connect in the engine compartment. Rear is a stretch sitting just 2” over the center link. The front connects just behind steering box pointing downward just below and going with the angle of stock kick down linkage.

With new cables for passing gear and manual valve body cars, I feel we could come up with a better flowing design for all out racers.

Not so many bends larger tube ect ect. We will have pics up soon Don. Yes it's a small world ChasRam we ride in crume all the time on the 4 wheelers. Hello myfirstmopar the price will be posted next Monday here. http://www.stormcomm.net/mrtwister/index.html#redirect

I just found this thread a couple of days ago, but your most recent design incarnation looks promising! I'll be continuing to watch this thread in the coming days and weeks for performance numbers and price info!

We reconfigured the front header a little and this is why! We looked at a picture of clifford shorty's when we made these. The #1 cylinder connection length pictured on the left is 26 1/4" #2 cylinder is 23 1/2' and the #3 length is 21 1/4" this is a spread of 5"
newfrontheader1%20004.JPG

Now with my new design this is what it is!! The #1 cylinder connection length is 31", #2 cylinder 28 1/2" and #3 is now 29" longer than #2 after re-bending. Now the spread of connection length is only 2 1/2" half as much. Hope we can find some way to do this in the rear 1/2 of header as well. Here is the front the rear we are changing a little. We will install this later today and get more pics Don.

Here is the front 1/2 of header installed. 170 drop should be ok now!! What do you think?

Looking good! I like the steering box clearance. I know on my shorty cliffords I have to put on the rear header first how is it with yours or does it matter? Any idea on price yet? I would like to see some more pics of the choke pods off the car just to see how they mount. it is just a u-bolt?

Hello all and thanks 360scamp.8) With the front header installed, yes we can install the rear header just fine. Started all nuts by hand. We could install a 170 in the Duster now. We will bring this set to Charlies for fitment in his 65/170 Valiant soon.

Yes the price was listed here on our message board Monday Don. http://www.stormcomm.net/mrtwister/index.html#redirect

Looking Soooo good Twister !!
Hello memike thanks.

These are the test set, we started the sets for sale and they should be ready soon. The sets for sale, we will have two 2 ½” connection and two sets with the 3” connection, slip on or bolt on. I do have one 6 into 1 T-3 turbo connection to finish first. :clock:The choke pod will be made as a kit so you can mount them to any headers you may already have. I will be putting up pics of the build for all to see and do yourself if you would like! It just takes a little time not much in material. Talk to you soon Don.:toothy10:

Just wanted to let know, with these headers we have plenty of room for power steering. 8)

Have a good day Don :toothy10:

Spoke with Charlie yesterday, we are ready to do this next weekend!!! They should work in his 65 Valiant with a 170 motor also changing out the steering box to see if they work with power steering as well. Then he wants to mount his A/C bracket to see if they work with that. Charlie has been racing slants for a long time and is well known in the slant world. What better way to help the slanters than him and others assisting us. Thanks to all Don. Track testing soon!!!

hows the #6 tube for clearing a larger clifford intake ?
We will be checking this with the clifford when we go to Charlies next week. I will let you know soon after that. Talk to later Don:clock: is ticking.
Yall have a good weekend, Time to play!!!

Just letting yall know. I am going to Charlies this morning. We should be finished in a couple days. I will let you know if they fit the early A-Bodies soon Don. Have a good day.

sorry to jump in here but I have a simple question. on the bottom of the manifold there is a square hole, I was wondering do you seal the hole with a metal plate or something? what is that opening? I don't want any fumes or anything being release out. I have a project 1973 Plymouth Scamp Slant six and change the exhaust manifold with headers. thanks guys and great Powerful Engine with headers you have there mister twister.

That square hole is there so exhaust gas can heat the bottom of the intake manifold and prevent fuel puddling in the plenum. If it is left open there is nothing to worry about from the standpoint of fumes or anything else being released.

PowerPipe up date!! Here is some fitment info. The information I received was, if I build a set with straight down drop clearance of 1" these would work on the in a 64,65,66 A-body. So I did this with a drop clearance of 1 3/4" to have some motor movement room as well. When I saw the engine compartment was smaller in width than the 67 and up cars!! Figured we would have a little problem.

First thing we did was put a motor and tranny in the car. We used his 65 Valiant, We installed a 225 in the car first. We installed the PowerPipe-SC first and it fit!! Looks a little tight for exhaust connection but it can be done. This will work with the Clifford intake with the water connection style protruding from the bottom of intake.
We will need to slash cut the front of the 3" section for water pump clearance with the 170 not a big deal
powerpipesingle.jpg

On to the PowerPipe-DC. These worked as well, just need to change the direction of the exhaust connection. This change only if you run the Clifford intake that we spoke of earlier. While changing the flanges and slash cutting the front section we would change the connection angle also for the 170
powerpipedual.jpg

Now on to the True flow design. The front half of this set did work with the 225,
and for the 170 I would need to raise the connection a little, the back half needing work to fit. With this set showed the difference in the width of the cars about 2 1/2"=1 1/4" on the exhaust side
easter2010%20027.JPG

Ok the last set that was made would not work in his 65 without re-working. Keep in mind that, they all work in my 72 Duster with power steering. We will be building long and short tube headers for this application. (per Charlie) Honesty is the key.
easter2010%20025.JPG

Thanks to all for your input on this build + and -. We are so close, Not stopping!!! The plan is now his 65 Valiant will be comming home with me soon as Charlie gets a 170 ready. He said 1 or 2 weeks it should be ready. If you all need anyting for a slant build I would contact Charlie, alot of parts in stock, oil pumps, pistons, cams, gears, ect, ect. All the good slant stuff. Talk to yall soon Don!!!

Don, you are working your little tush off on these. They are looking fantastic. Keep me in the line when you get to the finish and selling point. I am going to run true duals on my 225/6 in my 70 swinger with p/s. My plan was to do a siamese setup from front to back with a separation before the rear end so the pipes come out both sides at the back. Glad you are getting closer. Thanks for the all the hard work you are doing.
Chas.

Thanks Chas We just finished Dodge Girls PowerPipe install, I will get you some pics of the system, she went true duels 2" sounds nice. The design for your car/application will be done this week!!!
Yes we have been busting them out as fast as one man can. waiting on the turbo flanges we received WOW they are sweet. I am calling Charlie today he should have the 65 Valiant ready for pick up. We will be using this for the turbo build as well. I am shooting for 64-76 A-Bodies no matter what slant you have in your car. I will make this happen soon. We will also be track testing different styles of the PowerPipe design see yall @ the track Don.

This is the first PowerPipe-TC under construction.
6X1turbo4.JPG

The turbo flange is for T-3 and the T-4 for up grade!!
6x1turbo3.JPG

Now making X and Y pipes and mufflers!!! Some people will run the true duels with the X pipe, others the Y and single. You know me I will be running both? Duel 2" pipes through the X and then the Y, single pipe to PowerPipe muffler, with two tail pipes?
hmmuffler5.JPG

I like the duel tail pipe look out the rear of car. The mufflers will have both tho. Here is the X+Y configuration I came up with, only 24" through X and Y both8)
mothersday2010%20011.JPG

The collector flange is just a thought now. Talk to you all later Don.

Can I get some pics of the 2bbl choke? I am going to need one for the 69 D100 we just bought. It came with a 225 with headers, 2bbl but no choke.
