Powersteering Pump

FYI I came across this in a hemi swap guide.

They have a picture and it looks like a 6.1 pump.

This link should show the pump.

I talked with a guy at Bouchillon and he said they had a Mopar pump that was supposed to work. That is was from a European vehicle that dodge sold. He was supposed to call me back, which of course he never did. Needless to say I'm a little skeptical as to the output of the pump.

I have been doing some research on this pressure issue. Since the pump is a toyota (toyoda on pump itself) pump I went that direction. Found an interesting article on it here http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...ering-pressure-power-steering-pump-cts-v.html post 11 as the Cadillac cts-v uses the almost identical pump. The pressure relief valve is no serviceable unlike the other type 2 gm pumps but very much the same as the one in our pumps. I pulled the valve out of my pump to have a look and it appears to be the same valve. In this he states he contacted cardone about pressures in various toyota pumps and found the 2002 - 2006 camry has a pressure relief of 1275 psi. maybe still slightly higher than the 1000 or so the mustang rack is supposed to have but probably close enough not to cause serious damage. He outlines the change here http://www.buyrcars.com/jag.htm about 3/4 of the way down the page. He bought a used pump off ebay and swapped valves. When he tried it it did not build pressure so he went back to the original high pressure valve. What is not known is if the valve in the used box was good to start with. I think it is definitely worth pursuing and as soon as the weather breaks I plan on taking a trip to the j/y to pick up a few of these valves and see what happens. maybe not an end all solution yet but definitely a possibility

I am starting to lean towards the instillation of a GM type 2 pump. There are plenty out there that put out the correct pressure and volume, the only problem is mounting one with an attached res to the Hemi. But you know what they say "Where there is a will, there is a way" and I have plenty of will.......

March performance sells a regulator kit.http://www.marchperformance.com/pg52.html#psreg

I'm doing an Ls1 swap in another car with an MII rack and the tech told me about this regulator. Haven't used it, just passin the info

Yes that is the same kit borgeson sells but it only works on the gm type 2 pumps, The pressure regulator valve on the new hemi units are not serviceable.

I have a plan, I'll let you guy's know when I get my new pump. This is what I ordered....

just at a glace have you thought of a power stering pump off a jeep cherokee it looks a lot like the pump you have there but am not sure what the pressure that it puts out. Tincup are your brakes manual on your car? you could put hydro boost on the brakes and this will bring the pressure down but not sure on how much

I have a pump from a Jeep (too much pressure) A hydroboost will not lower the pressure to the rack.

Whatever you do, don't do business with AGR. They have held my SRT pump hostage for almost 6 weeks, with no work to show for it. Very disappointed, terrible customer service.

Finally got my pump(s) back, now all I need to do is engineer, design, machine and install a solution. Stay tuned......

C'mon, I'm waiting on pics, lol!!!!

Problem solved .....

:protest:I have put 2,000 miles on my Hemi with AGR power rack, truck pump son drives it every day he's 17 no probems with mine I think the power reducer is a waste of money unless you are doing donuts all the time.

My factory power steering box is leaking. It's connected to a 6.1 jeep grand Cherokee pump. Guess I better read up on this thread!

Maybe I am mistaken, but I though factory power steerin guys (b&e body guys) were able to run a factory 6.1 pump with a factory old school power steering box? Anyone have any links or data points one way or the other? Thanks
