ProComp/Speedmaster aluminum heads

-
Here's the kicker, when I called and talked to somebody at Speedmaster a couple weeks ago the guy said 255 each for unported plus shipping and $1, 200 plus shipping for a set of CNC fully loaded heads. Again I'm hoping to scrape together a budget soon...:BangHead::thumbsup:
So here are my thoughts. If I could get a set of CNC'ed heads empty like under $1, 000 way under $1, 000 on a Black Friday sale I can possibly load them up with my Springs and valve and retainers? And don't let one of these crazy offers happened where again they offer CNC heads and the whole load of other expensive parts for a real cheap price. as a matter of fact two weeks ago when I looked at their site everything they offered came with a free air gap intake manifold as well...
absolutely every single part on this car has been a compromise of how far I want to take it and how far my budget will let it go. Absolutely every part I have on my car I could have spent more on and got a little bit better quality. I could have got a forged crank instead of a cast. For just a little bit more. I could have got h-beam rods instead of I-beam rods for just a little bit more... And you know come on you preach budget yourself for what you can afford...
With all that said that's what I was hoping to find out here if the guy could get some decent horsepower and bide his time and get them at the right price just maybe... I could finally have aluminum heads....
If we can keep everybody from going crazy and bananas at each other for a little bit and keep on the subject maybe I could possibly take this thread all the way to a timeslip...
My first general question about these heads have been clearly answered. They're not a huge threat to my engine or me. With relatively a small amount of expected inspection and possible minor correction there is really no reason to call these that dramatically of less quality especially considering and this is the big consideration the application?

As you said I know exactly were you are coming from BUT weigh your options carefully and sometimes for a few dollars more you can get a way better quality product. You probably read my post on ProMaxx heads. My buddy finally got the set I checked out for him on his 340 and just told me tonight how well it runs. This guy is on a budget budget, and I try to help him out when I can. I just sold him a deep sump oil pan, pickup, and a used pump he can checkout sometime for 50.00. ProMaxx heads are finish machined and assembled in good old USA.

Unless you already changed out the valves you have to 11/32 stems, you can't use them in those heads.

Unless you want to change the guides to 3/8 and then do a valve job...which they probably need anyway.

$1,952 for promax.
Please let no one forget $2-300 in gaskets bla bla to make it all work...
Here's what the budget mind is thinking...
Promaxx is $48 away from being 2K if there is free shipping...
And Speedmaster is within a hundred or so on a good sale of $1, 000...
No?
Keep in mind my realistic expectation...
I'm looking for the realistic expectation of 50 lb or so lighter, a realistic chance that the aluminum heads will dissipate enough Heat along with a thick enough head gasket to run pump gas, and finally gained a considerable amount a flow over a stock ported cast iron head. and of course we could get into how good the stock head was ported like stock Eliminator or out in my garage...
And yes that's why I started this thread to weigh this option for me personally and for others that may be breathing as well..
As in okay I went to cheap Road. now did I save anything or did I just cost myself. I've done it before. I threw the 7 1/4 away as soon as I got the car off the trailer when I bought it. Had very little into an 8 1/4 got the stoker and figured I was going to blow it up so built and 8 and 3/4 and 20 passes later blew that up LOL and now a built Dana 60. Do you think I tell new people thinking about rearends to just get a Dana 60 to begin with? LOL I understand your intentions, but this is basically about the speed Masters...

What if I got one of those crazy deals where I got the heads and air-gap intake and a big huge ProForm carburetor? I'd be able to do some real Apples to Apples test between dual quads and single big four barrel and maybe even try the intake and carburetor on my iron heads first?

Don't forget Jegs has 10% off sales all the time and if you order heads and gaskets that's over 200.00 off.

I could settle without the CNC porting. And please tell me you see the same thing as I do and that free intake manifold looks like it has Magnum holes as well?
There's that 200-plus dollar Magnum intake manifold I've wanted to try a junkyard nitrous Magnum swap for fun...??:D

I do think about how nice it would be to have my current heads kept whole and not taking apart that way I can sell them ready to run. They are in great condition and have had quality work and parts put in them...

The TR will win. Every time.

J par, I can get the 750 dp carb for cheap also. I started a thread on them, but only johnnymac replied, but he had a proform not Procomp carb. Kim

It's not procrastination at all, it's called patients...
I know. and with winter right around the corner, there certainly is no rush.
But I do think prices are eventually going to go up could be as much as 30 % on offshore goods.

Well that would naturally drive me over to the Edelbrock Camp. I'm just looking to bide my time to get the deal I can afford.
I'm not trying to get caught up in the World Market or anything political I'm just trying to put cool Parts on My Hotrod...
