Project Cheap & Nasty is now a short block. New timing chain and new camshaft sprocket, but original used crank sprocket. Used stock cam and all. Used oil pump with big block high pressure sprAng. The rod bearings I had were for some kinda V8. There were 8 pairs and they were the wrong size, so the original rod bearings went back in. They weren't quite as bad as I thought, although one did have some pits.

So, Cheap & Nasty moves forward, however slowly. Got the manifold studs in the head, sealed with Permatex #2, so yall can argue about it. Got my rockers, shaft and hardware all cleaned up and sprayed down with Fluid Film. If you've not used Fluid Film yet, I highly recommend it.

those look way better than the ones that came off the engine
 
For those who would like to know... this engine sat in the 66 Dart we drug back from Washington state. It had sat in a field for at least 10 years with the spark plugs out on every cylinder and it arrived at said field with them already out. I will eventually edit up the video from us taking it apart.
 
Got the oil pump pickup screwed in, the oil pan painted from Hemi orange to green and my oil pan bolts soakin in purple stuff.
 
I had to buy 16 exh. man. studs this week. Damn they have got pricey! (Stupid Ford manifolds!!) But what hasn't! :BangHead:
Yup everything is stupid high. Even Krystal hamburgers ain't a cheap lunch anymore.

Not a thing. It's about three years old. It still runs great. I want to get my feet wet with a turbo motor, because I want to build something more substantial. I figure a cheap and nasty stone stock build with good used parts and little cash outlay would be the way to go.
 
Cheap & Nasty has an oil pan and pickup. Yay.

Looking good, I'm looking forward to see how this performs, i have a performance cam and lifters for a 225 laying around I had contemplated selling which is left over from my sons previous Duster build but when it got wrecked he got a v8 one now but honestly watching this build has inspired me to hang on to it just in case I stumble across a 70,s to 80,s S/B 4spd P/U with a slant, hmmm......:popcorn:

Man this is a sick hobby, I finally finish my last project after many years, drove it all over this summer, admire it every day in my garage and what goes through my head?......thoughts of another project, lol

That's how it's supposed to work!
 
So far, all the money I have in this is two tubes of grey RTV.....sue me, I used RTV on the sides of the oil pan because I couldn't find the cork pieces and I also used it on the timing cover because the paper gasket I had was so rotten it broke into like four pieces when I picked it up. A new rear main seal and one can of garden green paint from Ace Hardware. I already had one can. I also splurged in a new oil pump pickup and big block high pressure oil pump sprAng. So far, that's all the money spent. Less than $50
 
My lifters showed up today that Sean @replicaracer43 refaced for me. They turned out great. Sean, I cannot thank you enough.

Kitty came up with a great color idea for the valve cover. She said gold would pop against the green. I believe she is right. Soon as I get the pushrods in and the valves adjusted, I'll stick the valve cover on. Whoever I bought it from said it was in much better shape than it was. It's pitted badly. Also, one of the bolt holes was split but I migged it up. After a couple of thick coats with filler primer, it looks ok. They may well may not have known, because old paint and dirt can hide a lot. I don't even remember who I got it from. Might not have been anyone here. I have a ribbed valve cover and that's what I wanted so it works.
