Project Crusty Biscuit (65 Plymouth Valiant)

-
Obviously, you're going to have this car sit "a little lower" than factory. LOL

Super excited about what I got done this weekend! Finally some final finishes on the car! I put the car up on saw horses and worked on the bottom. Applied some por15, seam sealer where needed, epoxy primer, and finally some satin black 2K urethane as the final finish. This paint goes from the rear wheel wells to the front behind the grill on the radiador core support:

Then today a friend and I knocked out the inside of the car and the firewall. I went with Toyota cement gray for the inside (I’ll post pics of the inside tomorrow) and Peacock Turquoise as the main color!

This is phase one of paint done! My plan is to start reassembly from this point and then do the final paint job once the car is 90% back together. I have a small shop and I don’t want to risk messing up a fresh paint job by scratching it of bumping it with parts as I put the car back together.

Finally have some updates on the no-longer Crusty Biscuit. I had a lot of cleaning to do on the suspension parts. I used a strong degreaser in a pump sprayer and a pressure washer to try to clean off the 1/8” thick oil/mud shell coating the K-member and lower control arms. That worked for the most part but I still had to use a scraper and flat head screwdriver to get the tight spaces.

Clean!

The lower control arms were a bit tougher so I soaked them in a bucket full of diluted muriatic acid and degreaser. Worked a charm!

Oh wow, it’s been awhile since my last update. I got a lot done over the past couple weeks! Painted up The k-member, LCAs, and drag link:

Restored the K bolts with a black oxide treatment, pressed in the LCA shafts, and started mounting things up!

I’m still waiting for my new spindles, and my UCAs still need some work so I’m going to be jumping around a bit...

This girl needed some help, very low mileage rebuild according to previous owner. When I was tearing it down I was pleased to find that he was telling the truth and he actually held back from telling me how extensive the rebuild was! It looks that the only parts not replaced were the block and the head castings! Only issue was a couple wiped cam lifters...

Before replacing the cam and lifters a began stripping the old paint and prepping for the new paint job!

That's awesome progress! What is the black oxide treatment??? How durable is it?

Do you run anything to retain the LCA? Or does the bushing to the job?

The bushings do a great job but the factory strut rods will hold them more.

The black oxide seems really good; it’s not a paint it’s a chemical reaction that treats the surface of the metal. You have to really polish it good with a wire wheel to get it to work properly. Tightened the bolts down with an impact and it didn’t even phase it! Here’s a link:

With the engine and trans installed I was able to finalize the axle pinion angle, set my air bag brackets, and check the clearance on my wheel/tire set up in the wheel tubs. All I could do is stare and laugh at the atrocity I have created!

"Bold decisions" I like it.

You know I don't mind tellin you I DETEST low ridin shitballs with big *** wheels and everything that goes with them, but this build is an absolute exception. Your skills are just off the chart. This is going to be an amazing car.
