Well, after installing my ATI Superdamper, my March underdrive pulleys don't line up. Looks like the crank pulley is setting too far back. Any suggestions? Anybody else have this issue when switching to an ATI dampner?

Thanks,
Darren

Yes, I had that same problem! Did you get the damper set up for a Mopar pulley, or the one set up for a SB Chevy? Anyway, mine has the SB Chevy pulley set up (which makes it easier to find a pulley that works…sort-a). I just picked up a set of washers to make spacers between the pulley and the balancer. Keep trying different combos of washers to get the right depth. Basically, keep trying it until she stops throwing belts @ high RPM. Once you have the magic size figured out, you can either cut some better spacers out of steel tubing or just keep the washers.

I have been using the washers on mine for about 3 years now, spinning 6800 rpm through the traps without issues.

Are you talking about washers for each of the six bolts between the pulley face and the balancer forward side?

Yup, get a set of washers and in your case look through them and try to separate out 6 with the same thickness (my crazy Chevy pulley only has 3 bolts, makes this a little easier). Then, put your bolts through the holes on the pulley and place the washer on the back side of the pulley (between the damper and the pulley); note, you might need longer bolts if you’re moving the pulley out much. Keep adding washers until it looks right by simply standing directly over the top of the water pump and look down. When it looks right, throw on the belt and start her up. Check to see if it looks out of line at idle…if good, give it some gas and pray that the belt stays on. This is the poor mans way to go…but hey, it works!

My 67’ has a built 360 w/ eddy heads, JE pistons, MP 509 cam, RPM airgap, 750dp, 150-180 shot of juice (depending on the day), 727, 8 ¾ w/ 4:10’s, Moser 35 spline axels, spool, 4 wheel disc from SSBC, mini tubbed on Hoosier QTP 28x11.5. She runs low 11 teens @ Bandimere Speedway (5800 feet above sea level). The day this picture was shot she was running 11.14 @ 122 mph and the density altitude was over 9,000 feet!!! It was pretty hot.

Awesome setup! I have a 360Magnum stroked to a 408, eagle rods, wiseco pistons, eddy heads, hughes cam and springs, windage tray and MSD. Haven't fired up yet as it is still on the engine stand. Just now ran into the pulley problem. How are you getting traction? I'm worried on mine.

Hey Flyfish

My crank pulley is actually sticking out too far, from the water pump and alternator pulley by about .250. What now?

Thanks,
Darren

Thanks 340mopar. I did call ATI, and they said to mill about .250 off the back of the damper hub, to bring the pulley back in line with the others, as it is bottoming against the crank gear off the timing chain. Does that sound crazy? It's just such a pain in the *** to install the fan with all those shims as I have done in the past, I'd like to make things simple.

Thanks,
Darren

I have drag shocks front and rear, Hoosier QTP, and a pinon snubber...works well enough to get the front end off the ground with 1.55 60' times.

Ooooh, in that case, go with what 340mopar said.

If you take .250 off the back of the snout is there enough space between the timing tab and the balancer so it doesn't make contact?

Being the difference is .250 it seems like that ATI balancer is designed for a motor plate application, motor plates are .250 thick and go between the water pump and timing cover. This would make it line up.

You are exactly right about the timing tab 340! I looked at that and it would not work, therefore I will go with your suggestion of shimming the alternator and waterpump. I supervise a machine shop at a jet engine facility, and already had the shim cut. So glad I asked you and flyfish, as you guys know much more than I.

Thanks again!!
