Good for you Wally! Get that trans issue remedied and we'll look forward to seeing that Demon laying down some serious #'s in just a few short months. I know you'll do what it takes to make it happen and that 10-sec slip is well within your grasp.
Just had a friend teach me how to build a 727 today - first time for me. All these trans guys on here are right...the mechanicals of them really are pretty straightforward and simple. So long as you have a good selection of the various thickness spacers and washers to set endplays/clearances, they go together pretty easy. This friend had some interesting trans to compare against each other: a Coan built 20 years ago, a Turbo-Action built a year ago, and another Coan built within the last year. It was very interesting to see all the little variations each of them had. I'm sure each of the mods were done thinking this was how to build a better mousetrap.
I figure I better learn this stuff as I know my trans won't live forever, even behind my little 408!
"Hoping to dip into the 10's!!"I thought about trying it myself, but if the guy I've known for 40 years that builds 727's can't figure this one out, I thought I'd better take it to a professional.
I have an old 727 core in my shed, maybe someday I'll dig into it.
I'll keep everyone updated as this has me excited again. Hoping to dip into the 10's!!
Good Luck with your quest for the 10s ! I am the same way the guy that builds my 904s used to run a Stocker for Chrysler back in the early 70s and really knows his stuff and has been doing my transmissions for over 40 years. He does all kind of tricks inside and they must work as the 904 behind my 410 inch small block has been in the car 7 years now. He also built me a complete ready to go spare 904 in case I ever need it for the simple reason : he is getting up there in age being in his mid 80s. If you can swing it .. it might be good idea to have your other 727 gone thru also .. always good to have a ready to go spare especially in the middle of a race season."Hoping to dip into the 10's!!"
You certainly will. No doubt there!
I would like to do one myself. I do like challenges. When my hardtop had the slant in it I lost reverse band. I had a junk core so I slowly disassembled it on my bench keeping everthing in order until I got the reverse band out. Then pulled my tranny and replaced the band and adjust both bands. No manual. Worked like a charm.P.s. I hope you didn't infer that I thought I was a trans expert. That would be the farthest thing from the truth! But I think I could certainly do the routine things like clutchpack replacements, endplay settings, assembly, etc. Maybe one day I'll have to put it to the test - but hopefully not soon!!
How did your Tubular Automotive headers fit and perform?I believe it , I used to use Tubular Automotive brand headers
The first two sets fit well I really liked them ! ... the first set I bought used many many years ago when they wore out I purchased a brand new set also many years ago, they eventually wore out also so I went to TTIS ( I don't care for them ) I purchased a brand new set of Tubular Automotive headers 2 years ago , had them coated to the tune of $1400 total invested and they fit poorly : they hung so low I couldn't get the car in my trailer , one tube hit the steering so hard it made a hole in the tube and I had a really hard time slipping the collector on the tubes during installation . I called them , they repaired the tube no charge and couldn't understand why they didn't fit after having two sets before . They wanted me to bring the car up to see what was wrong but I never did and I went back to the TTIs. I sold the Tubular Automotive headers. Now the TTIs .. I don't like how close they fit to the trans ( I had to modify my shifter linkage for them to fit ) and they are really heavy being basically one piece . The only advantage is that I don't have to run a 90 degree oil filter adapter and can use a shorty filter instead. I purchased one of their H pipes last year and it also fits poorly ( my mufflers hit the driveshaft ) I had it rebent and it still hits.. I have to address the matter again before racing season starts again. How did your Tubular Automotive headers fit and perform?
I run the 1 7/8 TTI's.The first two sets fit well I really liked them ! ... the first set I bought used many many years ago when they wore out I purchased a brand new set also many years ago, they eventually wore out also so I went to TTIS ( I don't care for them ) I purchased a brand new set of Tubular Automotive headers 2 years ago , had them coated to the tune of $1400 total invested and they fit poorly : they hung so low I couldn't get the car in my trailer , one tube hit the steering so hard it made a hole in the tube and I had a really hard time slipping the collector on the tubes during installation . Lol, wow !I run the 1 7/8 TTI's.
Only because you can no longer purchase the Headman Hustlers.
Tubular Automotive told me that their header would fit a 71 Demon but not a 71 Dart.
I didn't feel like arguing so I left it at that.
Not trying to argue, but I’m wondering why they wouldn’t fit a Dart?I run the 1 7/8 TTI's.

It's not in the front end.Not trying to argue, but I’m wondering why they wouldn’t fit a Dart?
Dart wheelbase is 3” longer, wouldn’t think that would affect anything?
I have the TTI 1 7/8” - 3 1/2” and when following the instructions, the went in very easy and fit great.
I'm not trying to argue either. They should fit the Dart but TA says they don't.Not trying to argue, but I’m wondering why they wouldn’t fit a Dart?

Basically when I spoke with TA they told me they would build me a set but if they didn't fit, they wouldn't issue a return. Building any type of Mopar is costly enough to start taking chances on $900.00 headers that may or may not fit.Not trying to argue, but I’m wondering why they wouldn’t fit a Dart?

Yes.All,
I'm planning on pulling the Engine/Trans together soon to get trans 100% and update a few things in the Engine compartment.
Question is - with the TTI Headers, will they be able to be left in place while I pull the Engine/trans out?
Years ago I'm pretty sure I remember pulling them out and leaving in the old Hooker Super Comps.
At almost 60 years old, I find myself doing as much research as I can to make things go smoother - this site is a God send for that!
Thanks in advance everyone!!
Wally.
