Seatbelt ticket

-
What gets me about Florida seat belt laws. Every person in the vehicle must use a seat belt/shoulder harness. But you can ride in the open bed of a pickup with out any restraint at all. Tell me that makes any sense.
Arizona was like that when I was living there too. Idk if it’s still is like that.

Unless you were being a dick the Cop was being an *** . He could have just mentioned that you need to wear the shoulderbelt (assuming that is the legal definition of the law) and appreciated that you at least tried to comply. It was a powerplay. They have the latitude to make decisions...

If the shoulder harness had been in the clips above the door, you likely would have never been stopped. Having it dangling gave him probable cause to initiate a stop.

I think that's a chickenshit ticket. Give a courtesy stop, let you know they are supposed to be worn if equipped and move on. Sucks you didn't get the information that wasn't ultimately costly.

Wear your supplied belts. Teen at church just rolled his Subaru wagon with 3 girls in it at 1AM, all wearing seatbelts, none were even scratched except for a bump on the head of the driver. He will lose his license because he couldn't drive anyone around under 18, or drive past midnight for his first 6 months. Lucky he didnt kill anyone.

Subaru makes a dam fine car.

Safe, quick&fast (if you want) and reliable as all get out.

Ok back to your seatbelts.

This moment was brought to you by Subaru Dealers near you :)... thanks ... Now back to the seat belt issue ..wear all you have or pay the fine.. it's called the law and the way people drive today a helmet is not a bad idea...

I'm not sure most officer know if the rule applies to the detachable belts, it was written to keep people from putting the shoulder belt behind them or under their arm. I'm not sure the intent was to include these rigid detachable shoulder belts. Bottom line keep it stowed (or removed) and you shouldn't have a problem.

Most people I know that have racing harnesses in their cars do not put it all on when on the street, they just use the lap belt. But they way the law is written you must use it all.

I have been wearing seat belt my entire life even prior to the law (1986 in California).

I have been getting conflicting information from the CHP and others on cars not originally equipped with belts, when the use of belts law was introduced in 1986 there was clearly an exemption for car not originally equipped, specified by year, this exemption is no longer in the current California Vehicle Code.

Just the "racing belts" (5 point harness) them self are NOT legal on the road. They are NOT a DOT approved seat belt.
Funny that a seat belt system designed to protect you in a 200 MPH crash is not legal for use at 55 MPH....

I have never got hassled over it tho, I do wear 4 points every time I drive. Yeah it makes changing lanes a ***** but I dont want my.head to hit the roll cage.

Girlfriend and I get pulled into a DUI checkpoint set up on the main drag in town one evening on our way to dinner. We both have our belts on in her shiny Black Tahoe. In the passenger car right in front of us I can see 3 kids jumping literally around in the back seat. LEO just waves them right through. Same Officer stops us, looks for seat belts, open containers, flash light in the eyes, the whole deal. I guess 50 yr olds were the target for the evening . Don't forget that front plate, been there done that.

totally unnecessary...what is the cruising speed of a boeing 747...about 500MPH?
and what kind of seat belts do boeings have?

exactly, lap belts, just like in our A-bodies

apparently, that is ALL you need

Yeah, how many people survive in a plane crash?

How many people survive a top fuel crash?

I'll keep my high back kirky race seat, 5 point harness and 8.50 cage.

:poke:

How many people survive school bus crashes?
More then planes and top fuelers...so maybe the key to survival isn't which seatbelt you were, but not wearing one at all (just like in a school bus)

:poke:

I don't think seatbelts on a plane were designed to protect you in a crash, maybe a runway incident, I see them more for turbulence and maybe a fuselage breach.

Lap belts on air planes aren’t for crashes. They are just to keep you from flying around the cabin in case of turbulence.

In case of a plane crash, all the belt does is keep at least part of you in the seat so that they can identify the remains.

The part of me that would remain seated isn't that noteworthy...i don't think too many people could identify me by it

I'm curious - not to drastically change the subject...
I have a 47 Dodge truck that didn't come w/ belts
Are any of you aware of any states/counties in the US where one can still be ticketed for not wearing belts?

Omg what a umm well Its a classic for cripes sake. Seatbelts. ...what seatbelts lol. Nothing like being pulled over cuz you have a classic and a MOPAR too. You can't make it a freekin dumb Toyota

Yeah, how many people survive in a plane crash?
FWIW.....some injury/death statistics on small aircraft crashes:
  • 70% walk away with no serious injury
  • 10% suffer serious injury
  • 20% are killed
Not what you might expect.... Seat belts have been in them since the late 50's.
