The ole stock block 340 purple shaft 273 rocker smogger mill made it home. Thanks Brian (IMM) for fixen her back up and checking things over. Hope to “maybe” start playing with it in April sometime.... we’ll see. Hope to get it figured out hit some good air this fall and see what she’s got. That subpar wheels up 5.79 makes a guy think!

the steady progression of 598 intakes... stockish 4150, milled punched converted for dominator use, and this time around the “its too big” R420.2 Brett Miller designed piece.

Steven Alguire made a set for me when he straightened the car..... :) sticks will be in place

Who makes that stat housing? I need to make or buy one for my sheetmetal intake. That looks nice!

That’s the Summit house brand Billet aluminum water neck. Fully adjustable o ring sealed. Have one on both of the engines.... think it took a few cans of “buy it now” courage to purchase them

March is nearly here! Only 1 weekend that month I WON’T be racing.... 3-7 Las Vegas, 3-20/22 muscle cars at the strip in Vegas, and a two day points race at Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix 3-28/29. ...and this is how I get burned out and park the car!

Made it to Vegas for Saturday only as planned.... wanted at least one day to get things done around the house. That was the plan... until we got home at 1am! Oil downs, a dragster goes on its side at the hit.... man what a long day!! Made it to round 3 before throwing it away with a .022 deficit at the light and a double breakout. Was running a 9.20 car so I just trusted the dial and ran it out. Fastest pass of the day.... 10.87 on a 89 dial :). Was nice to see my Vegas friends and get a little data for Muscle Cars at The Strip in two weeks.

playing around in the shed I put a fitting into my brand new puke tank.... didn’t think it was tight, but that sucker locked in! By the time I got it out was had some severely messed up threads! At first I was just going to do some grinding and have the fitting welded on, but after I slept on it, I stopped at the hardware store and with a die grinder made a tap and die from steel pipe. Whew! Got out of that one!

my version of hoarding..... water pump spacers required for the 9.2 and 9.0 deck blocks when using a belt drive. Timing chain required the “Arrow” timing cover. Just more weird stuff encountered on these builds

self imposed exile and lack of racing led me to getting this engined all glued back together. I’ll have to set it on the ground and clearance the oil pan welds where it was repaired so the flex plate bolts will clear. One header still bolts up, but is bent. Other side moved into the pan. I’ll have to wait for the world to correct itself before we get those fixed. Hobby cash has been put on hold for obvious reasons.

Since we’ve become the land of no race tracks we’re on to simple projects. Added some plates to help support the motor plate mounts. The top of the rails kind of took a beating on the wheel stand.

also a test as I’m using Photobucket still and they want to extort more $$$ so I can link picts.

.... met with my header guy last Friday and I’ll be hauling the car up the hill next Friday to his shop so they can be repaired. I’m very fortunate to have Greg at REF Unlimited so close. His talents at building headers is rivaled by few.

looking at what’s going on around me it’s looking like the next race I’ll be hitting is Labor Day weekend up in SoDak.

No test n tunes near you??

Tucson is the closest operating track.... nice 7hr pull

Quaker City in Ohio got the go ahead and will be opening next weekend. Now maybe I will finish my engine. Or maybe not.

W8 is back in the car and running. Have a few loose ends to take care of and the car should be race ready again. Vegas finally opens tonight for a test and tune, but I work today so that wouldn’t happen anyways. Pretty much leaving the car in the garage. The virus slowdown is hitting us pretty hard at work, so “fun money” is at a minimum. I did note one thing though. Engine sounds so different with the new intake. Very smooth... really calmed it down.

Apparently valve cover gaskets have a shelf life.... I bought some old Mopar Performance W8 gaskets awhile back and thought perhaps it was time to fix something that basically wasn’t broke. I also went with ARP studs over the bolts I was using. Holy LEAKS!! Luckily I still have the old gaskets here.... guess I’ll be ordering some Felpros.

Step away from the hot rod.... and let’s not reverse the vacuum pump fittings ever again!

The good the bad the ugly.... decided last Tuesday to hit Famoso for a West Coast Hot Rod race. The racing was held at night so that was the only way I was going! They literally ran from 8pm to 5am!! Head hit the pillow at 4am sat and 5am Sunday. 74 degree air at 2am felt REALLY good as compared to the 120 degrees thurs night when we loaded the car in the desert hell in which I live.

I was a bit nervous to release the ole trans brake, but the launch was calmed by wheel spin (1.36 60), and I didn’t make the 1-2 shift as we “forgot” to swap the high side rpm chip from 6000 to 8000.

Pass two still took off a bit squirrelly (1.27 60) but ran through on a 7300 shift point to a 9.21 at 144 and some change. This was at 2am with a 2200DA.

sat night we entered the Pro class and were plagued by air shifter issues, and then the final pass I won in my buy back round, but we have expensive noises. Sounds good cranking over (even compression), but light it off and there’s noise. Thought flex plate, but the oil psi seems to sweep more with rpm so enough of that. Cars back in the garage and maybe after a couple days of recovery we can start looking at things. It’s the really hot season, but if you want to be ready for the really nice season, you gotta pay your dues..... in sweat!

I have been facing my own problems with a faster engine. I almost just want to go back to a 12 second car and just have fun again......for once.

A lot of people under estimate a good decent reliable easy to take car of 12 second car. Make it a low 12 car. There still quick on the street!

Going (really) fast gets expensive and tiresome.
Often it’s just a snooty ***** on the street and annoying from time to time like the little kid that won’t shut up and stop bitchin and crying on a plane ride home when your wiped out tired.

If your not having fun, then chances are your doing something wrong and/or toooooo looooong!

Well I was “punked”.... was going to take a couple nights off, but out into the 100+ degree garage where I found #8 header tube had loosened, fried out the remflex gasket. I don’t think I noted anything on the pass as I pulled N and shut it off early (took the win). It wasn’t until I was on the return road and went to fire the car up when I was met with what seemed to be an UGLY noise! It was between rounds, close to 3am, we loaded her up.... didn’t even pull the hood. I did discover the water manifold is leaking so I’ll have to address that. Not sure where we’re going next....

On the slow deal.... for the past year I’ve been running our other engine Bracket Betty. Iron head 360 that’s as basic as you can get. Runs high 10’s and you throw fuel in it and go! Hardly ever have to take the hood off. I can definitely appreciate a good reliable easy to find parts for combo.
