Like the carb cover!
likely the way i got it. It was a 318 po po car motor. Never used the 727 or the original 7 1/4. I bought the car for the straight rust free body- the running 318 to play with was just a little bonus.

Are those Hooker Super comp headers ? Would love to see a build thread or more pictures of them installed
I have a new set awaiting install on my 66 Valiant, sand blasted and treated with High heat POR20 .

Headers are custom built pieces since that is where you are when you jump into the W8/9 pool. REF in Kingman AZ built em in a day. I'm very fortunate to only be about 50 miles from them. Greg is an artist!

Started with a 225, then built a mild 318 for it. Enjoyed it like that for a summer and then dropped in a 340 that I built. I also 4 speed swapped the car this summer!

Nothing to crazy but I like it.

The grapes of 318 wrath!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was able to get a 13.7 out of that teener. Well til I held third gear to the end of the 1/4 mile. And it went "knock-knock-knock" all the way home...

side note: knocking like a mother the next day limping it over to where I kept it stored at the time- two kids in clunk ricer wined up there rubber band next to me at a light... doored'em

Some old teeners are tough, this one still started the next morning in my challenger.
I hung it on the wall of my garage to remind me not too be stupid all the time.

According to B.R. Hembree Decoding guide for 1966-1973. 1969 340's should be blue. 1968 was red, 1970 and 1971 was street hemi orange (red orange)
I worked on a bunch of 69 340s back in the day. The first 69s I worked on were red. Then the blue ones seemed to be the norm. I did work on a few orange ones later in the year too. I have no idea on change dates or if there even was a relation to date. My guess is they were painted with whatever was available at the time. They probably used up leftover red, switched to blue and when orange was available they used that. I do know that I saw all three colors in 69 cars. The definite majority were blue.

Who said 340s had to be painted Orange or Turquoise. The valve covers are junky swap meet pieces that I powder coated at home.
