Well of course you did. Most of the folks there are fairly slim. A much better diet I am sure.

For years, I always worked out. For 20 years between specialty PD units and military I had six PT test a year.
Retired got lazy, ate and drank too much.
Many times since I said I neededd to do something different but didn't.
Finally I got motivated and got my rear in gear.
I wasn't to far gone, but far enough I was starting to see the affects.
I'll never go back!!

Ok, another question for ya. This is on my own car, I was thinking of swapping the factory manual steering box to the PST 16:1 box. I do not have the factory steering wheel and if memory serves me right its only a 15" wheel. Do you guys think the 16:1 box would be a real pain in the *** at slower speeds, such as parking?

A bigger pain. Have your front end aligned with less caster if that's possible.

I dunno about that on a Mopar, But I'll tell you, I took the wagon wheel size steering wheel off my 60 Corvette, Cause it was hard getting in and out of the car, and I aint huge... Has a 15 in wheel on it now, and YES it is a bear to steer at low/turns...Great on the road though. Not sure of my steering ratio, but I do have the fast steering adapter, on the linkage......

Do you work out?
Even then, especially with wider tires, is a a lot of work parallel parking.
A 16:1 manual box, regarless of whom you buy it from, is a 16:1 box.

16:1 is helpful for autocross slaloms.
20:1 is fine for road course.
24:1 is probably what you have so you know whether you want more turning realtive to steering wheel movement.

I should be back to the garage in a few days, but I don't think the factroy wheel is much more than 15".
Just fit in the trunk standing when placed near the hinge.

If you're car came with a v-8, then it has the steering box with lower bearing. That's a better deal than the /6 boxes with the lower bushing.

Slower speeds...parking NO FUN!! :poke:

I've got a couple questions..
  • If I recall the slant trans (assuming it has a 904) has a different bell housing pattern than a SBM trans correct?
  • He said his car has dual exhaust but how much of that would have to be change to make it work with a V8?
  • Does anyone have a good lead on a 318 engine and trans. Or even a good running slant incase he wants to go that route?
a. Yes.
b. You'll have to look at it. Probably everything but the tailpipes, but you'll have to look at it. Did I mention you'll have to look at it?
c. That shouldn't be too hard to find.

D. If you do the swap, it would be best if you have a smallblock donor car. I can't tell you how many runs I made to junkyards and swapmeets etc for all the little things.

Hey, check this out

Thanks everyone. My car came with power steering and I believe the wheel was a couple inches bigger. Maybe my Grant wheel is only a 13"...

I was debating about swapping back to power steering since my manual steering is so sloppy and loose feeling, but I wasnt sure about going to that ratio. I figured it would be a work out and no fun and I would hate it. I have everything to swap back to power steering, but not sure I want to...

Get the “pump it down” mod kit. It cuts down the power steering by about 50%

Getting less and less backed up by the day.
Until the guy that wants an engine swap shows up...
Tomorrow’s work is taken care of, so i will resume cleaning shop that i tried to start a week ago. Tools are all put away, just junk and a deep dusting.

my manual steering is so sloppy and loose feeling,
My sequence of checking is:
Wheel bearing adjustment - check with wheel off the ground, grab and 12 and 6 and see if there's any movement.
Check for movement in the linkage - leave one wheel down, grab the other around 9 & 3 while watching steering linkage for slop. Then do the other side.
Both wheels on the ground, turn the steering wheel looking for slop between the coupler, and then looking underneath at the pitman arm.

Its all in the steering box. I've adjusted it last year, but over the course of the summer it got sloppy again. Now Im out of adjustment. The entire front end was rebuilt and everything good and tight.
