Stop in for a cup of coffee

Well I have two of the restoration batteries in the garage. I was looking at the case wondering how'd I'd take it apart.
The guy I bought my Swinger from has a restored Notchback. He took a original battery, drained the acid, cut out the bottom (I think), and put a John Deere Lawn and Garden battery inside.

Why? John Deere batteries suck. We stopped using them and switched to Dekkas for all the tractors. Got tired of pulling batteries twice a year.

So I just checked my email, looks like my reenlistment has one big consequence. My annual two week training dates start the Friday before Carlisle and end Sunday, the week after. So not only that but my sister gets married the Saturday of Carlisle. So I’m going to request an alternative training period.
Doubt that will happen that is the really only firm date in the guard you cannot get out of. Checks off to many boxes for the unit. Maybe tell them your hamster died and have to go to the funeral now?

Yep with the battery hold down will hold the case in place. The bottom would be the place to cut it open.
The restoration battery case seems to be a little bigger than the normal modern day battery.
It should cover a battery just need to figure out the terminals.

Side terminals up to the original top post from the inside?

Are your restoration batteries lead acid or spiral wound?

Naw he works for the boss. He can split it out a week at a time and go in.

Doubt a group 27 will fit in that case though. Next size down? Not like it will be a daily driver.

There were some good pics in the moparts threads showing how to hide a small battery in the case.

Put the other option is open /em, clean the plates or replace whateve is needed and close it up.
Be best to find someone whose done it before so it looks neat and is sealed good.

Haha yeah. Well I’m hoping with the sisters wedding thing, that’ll help. Or so I hope. Plus this unit doesn’t do AT all as one, it’s broken into teams and spread out through out the year, I’m hoping that I can get them to let me do it with another team

See a couple threads of others on here that have done this. Need to take another look or contact on of them and see what they used.

A 24 series would fit length wise but it might be the same width.

A couple more hours to get off watch. Then a couple more hours till the flight. Then the car ride home. All 8.5 hours if im lucky. If not 9-12 hours. Got to love construction, rush hour and car accidents.
Anyway morning all.

Have a good trip back.

That is an interesting idea for the original battery look. Those lawn and garden batteries have good cranking power.
