I'm feeling much better... Not full 100%, but much better than I was last week...

I'm going to take a few more days off to build up my strength...


My hemoglobin levels were just above the critical level yesterday, however I need to build them up more to get to the "normal" range...

They say that normal should be 12.6 - mid 15 range (kind of like battery voltage)... Below 7 they will do a blood transfusion... They say that they've 'brought back' people that dropped to 3.... Mine were at 5 when I went into the hospital, so if I dropped two more points, I could have been in serious trouble - heart attack or death.... Who knows how much longer that would have taken, it depends on the amount of internal bleeding...

I had to get two units of blood transfused before the surgery on Friday and then another one Saturday morning to cover the loss during the procedure... That brought me into the 8's...

They don't like to keep transfusing more blood above 7 because there is a chance I could have a reaction to the blood, or side affects from the transfusion afterwards, that's why they had to keep me for observation and monitor my blood before releasing me...


I have been poked in the arm so much my arms are sore and I look like a herion junkie with all of the 'track marks' in my arm.... (If a cop pulls me over and notices them, I may have to do some 'sobriety tests'....)

My left arm was poked so much, they 'wore out' my vein in there and had to move to a nice big one in my hand...
 
Here's an interesting question/thought...

Now that I have had three blood transfusions... I have blood from three other people in me...

If I commit a crime and bleed on the scene, who will they go after???? One of the other three, me, or all 4 of us????

Do I have a window of opportunity here where I can kill somebody, bleed at the scene, and get away with it????

(I'm asking for a friend....) :D

Wow, you had us worried for sure. Good to hear you are heading in the right direction Karl. Praying for a smooth recovery.

Thanks Chris... I may have been a couple days within death if I didn't go in...

I normally wouldn't have called 911 for help or seen a doctor, but my friend Doug told me that dark stools could mean internal bleeding...

I had corn for lunch on Monday and then went over to his house to hang out for the holiday... He made some of his famous ribs and I had some... Then the next day I pooped light brown with corn, then the next poop was dark... It stayed dark all week...

I went to the bar on Thur with my son for our weekly father-son quality time and while we were at the bar, Doug walked in with his neighbor... I started giving Doug a hard time asking what he put in the ribs because my stool was black since then.... He told me that dark stool could mean internal bleeding... In this case that was exactly what happened...

If it wasn't for Doug telling me that, I may have just figured I was still dehydrated like the first hospital said and just gulped a couple glasses of water and gone back to sleep instead of calling 911...

That encounter at the bar most likely saved my life....

I know. I know we ain’t met in person yet but dude I was flat worried. That a ruptured and bleeding ulcer in the GI tract is what killed my grandfather.

But this proves too that the docs lied to me and that the hour and a half difference between the first call of his I missed and when I called back could have saved him too.

I’m extremely thrilled though to hear you’re on the mend. Pretty scary stuff

Agree...

That wasn't the first time Doug's ribs have turned my stool dark, but it usually only lasted one day and I'm back to normal...

This time it lasted longer....
 
Yay!!! My camshaft is finally shipping out this week! Went flat tappet over roller. Mainly due to budget, the extra 2k cost to get it fully switched over just wasn’t worth it at this point in time.

285/297 adv duration, intake/exhaust duration of 241/247, .545/.545 lift, 110 lobe separation.
 
Just had Holley out and saw this in garden. Pretty sure its stuck in the bottom of the bird netting. Will go free him shortly. Lucky we came home earlier than planned. Would have baked in the sun 2 days…

Made it to shop, lights on in quonset. Going to finish the engine mounts and add some steel to transmission mount. Then i can set engine down. Have to put pan on with gaskets first. Then it can stay there.

One word of caution for all of you:

My internal bleeding was caused by me taking ibuprofin, aleve, and asprin for body aches and pain.... I assumed that because they were over the counter, they were safe to take... That was a wrong assumption...

I have been taking them for about four years... Sometimes on and off, and sometimes in streaks - like last November when I slept crooked and had a crook in my neck for a month before seeking a chiropractor... It took 8 weeks of weekly chiro visits for the pain to get under control and I used ibuprofin every day, sometimes twice a day to get through the pain... And many times on an empty stomach... I usually took aleve for my chronic lower back pain caused by getting rear-ended by a drunk driver speeding over 80 MPH back in 1988.... I switched to asprin lately because of my shortness of breath thinking I may have cholesterol build up in my arteries which may have contributed to my shortness of breath and the asprin would help thin my blood and break some of the cholesterol loose...

The hospital told me that the safest medicine to take from now on when I need it is Tylenol...

Stay away from ibuprofin, aleve, and asprin...

If you have to take any of those, make sure it's not on an empty stomach....

From now on, I'm gonna suck it up and try to just deal with the pain... Tylenol as a last resort....

And always read the labels for side affects...
 
Hopefully I can cut it loose without hurting it. I had to cut one out of th chicken wire before and it survived. Probably throw some cloth/bag over its head and snip the netting off. I doubt That I will be able to pull it back through
