Stop in for a cup of coffee

You could always throw a 318 in it and dress it up to look like a 273 and nobody would know but us chickens... :D

It would bolt in easily just like a 273...

Plus with a 318, you can throw on a set of 340/360 heads with the bigger valves and let it breathe better...

You can't put larger valves in the 273 with the smaller bore unless you notch the bores for the valves... But why do that when you could run a 318 instead, and they are plentiful...

I've run 318's with 2.02" intake valves and 360 heads with 10.5 pistons to get the final compression to 9.2 which is perfect for a street engine...

I'm thinking with the 273 I wouldn't need to make a lot of modifications

Am I crazy,?

The 318 bolts in the same as the 273... You can use the 273 engine mounts on a 318... No modifications needed...

The car won't know the difference between bolting in a 273 or 318... All of the 273 external parts will work on a 318... (engine mounts, exhaust manifolds, timing chain cover, pulleys, etc...)

You may talk me into this...

First things first. Get THIS done and drive up to Carlisle.

Remember, I don't know what the hell I'm doing about 75% of the time when I'm working on the car..

I know small blocks like the back of my hand... I've been building them for 40 years now...

I know what parts interchange and how to set them up for the different generation body styles (early a vs late a body) so everything will bolt up like factory...

I can walk you through it...

Cool. Very much appreciate the offer.

I'm going to get this iteration closed out then scheme

But I have his 318 and commando covers. I won't need that one after Karl builds the roller cam one.

Morning Tike all ready for Carlisle?? Little bummed we aren't going two years in a row now we've missed.

Good Morning Craig. I am not sure I am going to make it to Carlisle. It won't be to sell. I have the Vintage Motorcycle Days the following weekend and have a lot to get rid of there as well

Vintage motorcycles that sounds like a cool weekend!!

Anybody else thinking they aren't getting the fuel mileage on todays gas? I actually thought I had a leak on the motorcycle

Yes we're out. Gas prices pissed us off enough to decide we weren't going anywhere except an anniversary trip we had planned in late August.
If they drop you guyys would really ejoy the Hershey show in the fall, plan on 4-5 days with the car displays, swap meet and AACA Museum.
