I was out of there before they could change their mind. And how many times did you smile and wave to them with the check in your hand on the way to the parking lot?

The state govt. retirement here is similar. The rule of 88. Years of service + your age = 88 for full benefits. My wife started with the city 22 years ago and isn't quite there yet. One of the reasons she went back to work. For the county this time. It's like a part time job compared to the city. LOLI was very fortunate when it came to pulling the pin on the pension grenade. My trade union has a built in early out formula, they called it "30 30 60". 30 years in the trade, 30 retirement credits (1 credit/1000 hrs worked), and 60 yrs old was full pension rather than the 65 years old standard pension. I was very fortunate in my employment life to gather so many of those credits to where I'm sure the pension fund computer cringes each time it makes my pension wire transfer to my bank account. Not too many of my brother Engineers had the opportunity to work the number of hours that I did due to the seasonal nature of the beast of equipment operating.
With our state and military retirement, and other stuff the wife and I do pretty good. The company I worked for 36 years, just told me they couldn't afford me anymore. Gave me my pension paid my medical insurance and 2 weeks' pay for every year there. And kicked me to the curb at 57. That was 5 years ago.
The difference between retiring at 62 and Rule of 88 is $700 more a month. It's like why not go back to work. The state govt. retirement here is similar. The rule of 88. You have a black hole? Jesus I have had a brown one once in a while must have been itchy!Jodi and I went to the Battle of Prairie Grove Civil War reenactment today. It was a hoot. I love attending them. I have toyed with participation a time or two but decided it was a black hole for money. And lord knows I got enough of them already.

Wow that is nice !Was sitting at one of my favorite coffee shops today. Didn't notice this until I was sitting down so I don't know who's driving it. But when I find out who is driving it I got some questions. I want to buy one of those here in Vietnam. But I want to buy one that needs overhaul as you all know I have restoration skills. Hope to talk with this guy soon. This one is in really nice shape. Looks great !!!

I've never seen it in my city of Vinh Long before. I looked at the tag on it. The vehicle is from Saigon. Hope to catch the guy when he leaves here I'm still at the cafe. Like to find out where I can buy one like it. I'm sure a guy has some informationWow that is nice !
US jeeps left behind do you think?Well, I caught the guy as he was leaving. Actually a couple of guys in their '60s. From Saigon. Should have known already but he told me just look up Jeep clubs in Vietnam. He said there are many. He said they're in most cities. So I'll check into that and see if I can buy a derelict one that needs a lot of work. He gave me his phone number so I'll look him up when I go to Saigon again
For sure Mike. Lots of them left behind. Just don't know how much they get for one.US jeeps left behind do you think?

My grandfather was a POW at the army base I now report too. After the War and before returning back to Germany, he was part of a groups that offloaded captured German weaponry and pushed it into a big hole, where they filled full of concrete. Tanks, planes, V2s you name it.An old desert friend of mine told me of a project he and his platoon carried out as part of an Army engineering bunch. Just before the US exodus from VN they spent a couple weeks pushing equipment that wasn't going to be shipped out into an old quarry with bull dozers. Jeeps, trucks, cars, equipment, you name it. Just before they shipped out a large quantity of explosives were used to collapse the quarry wall on to the disposed of equipment.
