Stop in for a cup of coffee

I'm just too overwhelmed with stuff, but sounds like things have gone downhill at RFS.
When there is a radical change like those just described, like .069 to .076" diameter, then we learn very little.
Something was way off in at least one of the tsts, or maybe both.

On a properly set up carb, small changes in airbleeds should produce a predictable change in fuel.
When a little bit of air is introduced to a circuit and mixes in as tiny bubbles the mixture has less density than plain fuel. It is lighter and flows quicker. It passes through restrictions downstream more easily. These are reasons why in some situations there can be more fuel flow with increasing air bleed.

When the bleed is too big then the air is no longer tiny bubble but big bubbles. These bubbles can join together to make large bubbles of air between the fuel. Then its totally unpredictable but likley will spurt unevenly.

Another factor is the fuel restriction and air bled in can't be going from laminar flow to turbulent flow. Again everything becomes unpredictable then.

This is why the old Holley's (and Carters etc) are usually the best references to work from. When carbs had to work consistantly for production vehicles, the holes were in the positions and sizes that I call the working range. We can step those up or down a little and not get wacky results.

Matt, don't mistake my words for any ill thoughts or like RFS is going downhill. There just seems to be disagreement on here, RFS, YB, etc as to increasing or decreasing air bleeds makes them rich or come in sooner. To me it appears to be a finite value. Too little and it doesn't flow well, too much also, doesn't flow well. One due to not enough emulsion because of too little added air, and one due to not enough emulsion and flow because of too much air and turbulence. I think the Steve Brule test was to show large changes to get baseline, then fine tune it, read: which way is it happier, then fine adjustments.

We are, but the bank is sure funny about us doing so much work ourselves. Not sure why, but they do not like it. We have to send photos all the time of the progress. We pay for the material ourselves and do the work then submit for reimbursement from construction loan.
Same here when we built this place, but not the bank it was the county inspectors that got their panties in a wad.

In Hi we bought a house cut it in half and moved it onto our lot. So to finalize the building permit the electrical inspector wanted us to remove the sheet rock Well low and behold he was the one that installed it! And finalized the initial inspection. That got signed off fast.

Most home builders overbuild and aren't trying to cut corners on purpose like the commercial guys do. I know a couple city inspectors and they have contractors they keep a close eye on.

Too little and it doesn't flow well, too much also, doesn't flow well.
Too little is not generally a problem. Fuel flows predictably when its just liquid.

RFS was supposed be a place for folks who respected the fundementals, and people could learn why the marketing BS, the magazine experts, and their followers with the 'new and improved' were off track.

Yes that's cold for WV and not being set up for real cold weather can be a nightmare.
Like frozen pipes if there not deep in the ground.
Yep I’m watching this blizzard they’re calling for here. Temps as low as -40 with windchill factor

Same cycle here. High of 16 by next Saturday. I know @Fred Scigliano @Tooljunkie and @71GSSDemon would be running around in shorts and flip-flops but it's a bit chilly for out here.
Nah, that is still cold for me. If I could find a place 50-60 at night and 70-80 during the day, year round, I would be off like a prom dress

So question… I’m not gonna be able to pull this engine until at least March. Is there anything I can do to prevent the inside from rusting with this gasket being blown

About the same here with a sloppy mix on Friday.
Starts as mix to rain Thurs. Mostly rain Fri with a high of 54. Then it drops like a rock. 13F friday night and a high of 19F Saturday, Won't be surprised to see single digits Sat night...
Good Morning

Well just got off the phone with our boy. Looks like he is going to drop his retirement papers in April. He gets his results from last board evaluation in January. May or may not get E8. It is only an additional 300 bucks a month in retirement pay if he goes past 20 vs past 18. I told him he can make 300 bucks a month standing on his head in this work climate. He is now full time recruiting and got transferred to Battalion. He said the demands on his compliance to all things woke is driving him to retire early.

He’s in a similar boat to me.

Here’s the thing, let’s say he grabs E8, he has to hold that for 3 years to actually get that full 300 a month on his retirement pay. They take your last 3 years of your base pay into the pension formula.

Yup..

I did the math on that just the same as to the additional years in comparison to my income potential and movement toward retirement #2. For me, turning down the promotion (twice) was exactly the right answer.
