Stop in for a cup of coffee

There’s a couple ways to do it, one with a laser cutter. The other, old school method, involves scoring with a diamond blade and then using alcohol or lighter fluid and setting the score on fire
On both sides of the glass.

Can tempered glass be recut? I assumed the tempering was done after it was cut/shaped. I know if you hit an edge wrong it's in a million pieces... :BangHead:

Good Morning All
With a waterjet machine you can but it is tricky. I have even seen custom car shops have a guy come out and cut the safety glass, they score and break both sides and use a MAP torch to melt the plastic sandwiched inbetween along with melting the sharp edge.

That is just black magic!

That's laminate. (front glass) It doesn't disintegrate like tempered. I figured it was do-able, but didn't know the process. Back and sides are usually tempered safety glass.

Windshields arent tempered. Side glass and rear only. Heard of taping off and sandblasting to cut glass.

Yes laminate but I believe the tempered glass they start the water jet off the side and come in slowly (Karl??) so as to reduce the risk of breaking it. The initial shot (Karl) breaks it.

Yeh, I wonder if precise enough, Could score both sides of a windshield with a glass cutter. And tap across. I just don't know if the lamination plastic would allow it to crack. I'm guessing that's what others are referring to heating the line to separate, by melting the plastic. Too much heat and it would wreck the plastic back into the good piece. If it would strech even a little, could cut with a thin blade or wire.Shoulda tried on my old one(long gone),

Back from hospital. Doc prescribed something to tone down the pain. Targets the nerves. Bad sciatica. And pharmacies closed today. Gave me one pill to get me through the night.

Did they talk to you about any stretching or anything PT related that might help loosen things up Frank?
