On both sides of the glass. There’s a couple ways to do it, one with a laser cutter. The other, old school method, involves scoring with a diamond blade and then using alcohol or lighter fluid and setting the score on fire

With a waterjet machine you can but it is tricky. I have even seen custom car shops have a guy come out and cut the safety glass, they score and break both sides and use a MAP torch to melt the plastic sandwiched inbetween along with melting the sharp edge. Can tempered glass be recut? I assumed the tempering was done after it was cut/shaped. I know if you hit an edge wrong it's in a million pieces...
Good Morning All
That is just black magic! With a waterjet machine you can but it is tricky. I have even seen custom car shops have a guy come out and cut the safety glass, they score and break both sides and use a MAP torch to melt the plastic sandwiched inbetween along with melting the sharp edge.
Good morning
That's laminate. (front glass) It doesn't disintegrate like tempered. I figured it was do-able, but didn't know the process. Back and sides are usually tempered safety glass. With a waterjet machine you can but it is tricky. Is that for laminate or tempered? There’s a couple ways to do it, one with a laser cutter. The other, old school method, involves scoring with a diamond blade and then using alcohol or lighter fluid and setting the score on fire
Windshields arent tempered. Side glass and rear only. Heard of taping off and sandblasting to cut glass. Can tempered glass be recut? I assumed the tempering was done after it was cut/shaped. I know if you hit an edge wrong it's in a million pieces...
Good Morning All
Yes laminate but I believe the tempered glass they start the water jet off the side and come in slowly (Karl??) so as to reduce the risk of breaking it. The initial shot (Karl) breaks it.That's laminate. (front glass) It doesn't disintegrate like tempered. I figured it was do-able, but didn't know the process. Yeh, I wonder if precise enough, Could score both sides of a windshield with a glass cutter. And tap across. I just don't know if the lamination plastic would allow it to crack. I'm guessing that's what others are referring to heating the line to separate, by melting the plastic. Too much heat and it would wreck the plastic back into the good piece. If it would strech even a little, could cut with a thin blade or wire.Shoulda tried on my old one(long gone),Windshields arent tempered. Side glass and rear only. Correct. Windshields are what's referred to as "safety glass".Windshields arent tempered. Side glass and rear only. Heard of taping off and sandblasting to cut glass.
So, what are you chopping the top on?Yeh, I wonder if precise enough, Could score both sides of a windshield with a glass cutter. And tap across. I wonder if that why he needs the leg as trade!
I’m not. Just would have been an experiment. So, what are you chopping the top on?
I just saw a pic of a early Dart 4 door with a chopped top. Not a fan. (of 4 doors or chopped tops either one)I’m not. Just would have been an experiment.
I had something like that 30 years ago an old neighbor gave me. It looked like a weed wacker with a saw blade on the end held on with a washer and nut. I used it once and gave it away had to many visions of the blade flying off and hitting me.
My body shop homies told me long ago "Whenever you go doin' a chop top, have a spare roof clip and glass layin' around."If it doesn't have a flat glass I am out, but I would think a n old arigenal glass can be water sanded or water jet cut or something.. good luck, mybe someone can help that knows
