Never had a problem spraying a block with engine high heat paint but My opinion is make sure it's ok for direct to bare metal. Wash the block down before painting with prep solvent and dry it with a lint free rag.And speaking of cans ..

Yea that works just making sure you don't have any grease or flaky paint on it and not sure if your taking all the paint off the block and if not sand the paint with a scratch pad.Acetone?

K.. not trying to make anyone jealous but.... just pulled my 318 apart... so.. here's some sweet **** for ya.. BTW.. timing chain only about 2" of play... not the worst i have seen, cam spun like butter but i had to fight to get it out due to gunk on the edges of the cam journals.. bearings look great except one missing some babbitt, but.. that's just less drag on the cam! winning!
Rods pass the wiggle test.. they feel right in spec (no bad heat coloring or anything.. so.. not worried bout it)
P.S. this is just a temp motor to get the car mobile, just putting on the TF's and a roller cam to get it drivable.. this motor is going to have a short but painful life
Sooo.. here's some pics.. it smells like it looks..
