Stop in for a cup of coffee

I have that swap down to about 90min if taking my time. I have been a bit fickle with the gearing. 3.91 or 3.23 or maybe 2.91....hmmmm how far are we going???
3.23 and your tall tires would be perfect. With a 440 under the hood there's still lots of power for on purpose tire slippage.

Yesterday was brutal at work swapping my phone over, took hours but got it done. Great thing happened at end of day I qualified for this radio contest, 30K prize. I'll get a garage door opener at the party next Wednesday. There's 100 people who will have qualified, you try to open the door and if it does you win one of 8 prize packages (your choice), Kubota package, cars, boats, pool/spa, appliance (Thermador) etc. Dragging wife up to Casino with me. Also you win a prize package for qualifying, picking that up today.

yeah, swapping isn't an issue.. but just doing research i will need new axles also.. the pre-64 open diff and suregrips used different lengths... also need to get some different 10" backing plates for my drums.. so staying with awesome 2.89 gears for now :) I think the future will be 3.55s

I would research a "tight" converter set up if you are looking at a 3500 stall and have 2.89 gears. No cheap off the shelf converter that will slip constantly. You will be in slip/stall constantly at cruise. Lots of heat build up.

Sounds great Rich the best of luck to ya.

This will be about the 4-5 time either myself or Becky has been able to "push the button". Only downside is that it's on a weekday but I can always drink more coffee the next day!

Going Humpy fishing tomorrow with son, still need to rig up. Getting late for the run but might get lucky. If we hook a King it will be exciting tho as we're running 10 lb test line!

I think that's what's in my 8.25 but open diff. Want to find a sure-grip for it. Probably depends on tire size a bit but is 3.55 street or strip, wonder how it will be with 340 and 904 trans

Rich steal one out of 97-2001 jeep with a dana 35 in it. I did, super cheap and usually 3.55 gears. Plus if you want to go rear disk brake, they will be on that housing.

Short of "experience" while it's in the car... any way to assess a TC before install?

I get the physical inspection... teeth, weights, spline...etc. anything else?

I was told the 8.25 that's in it was out of a truck, not sure which model, has 3.55's so will probably just look for center section non-slip

I don't know. If it is being ordered new, then it will need to be discussed with the builder. I think most off the shelf ones are the old technology and will slip. Not sure what can be done with an existing converter unless it is just looked up by the manufacturer and part number.

If you do go jeep, they drop right in but they have ten bolts on the ring gear Mopar has 12. Last time I bought on and the disk brake set up it was 150!

Luckily my front already has disc brake conversion and big bolt pattern so I'll likely stick with drums in rear. Was a /6 car

I have the converter that came with SB 904 that I'm planning on using. I'll see if there's a part number on there

the way I understand it, it takes, lets say, 100hp or less to cruise. The fins allow the converter to hold to roughly this hp level which makes it drive like a tight stock converter. When flooring it, it will overpower those fins and allow full stall. This is more modern, custom build design - as I understand it. My 2400 B&M in the Demon is ok and slips. I want a PTC 4000 "tight". It will cruise fine, and stall when I want it.

Call Dr. Diff and get some new axles and do the gears before the converter. Can you swap in a 66-67 8 3/4?
