Stop in for a cup of coffee

So...freezing fog apparently. In the ditch. Spun a 540⁰ and in I went. Wonderful. Just walked a couple miles home.

Ouch! You OK?
I am fine. Marie's truck is fine. Just stuck. It's 2wd. So, my 4wd is the one with the bad caliper to fix tonight, or add some fluid and pull myself out??? Then walk back to her truck???

I'd do that if you can stay ahead of the fluid, if risky no sense making things worse/chancing it. Is vehicle in "safe" spot?

You have to love the 100 point guys and seals. They put NOS in and then it just pees fluid out and they are pissed. But it is NOS! Ugh yeah and 60 year old rubber! Most have a 10 year shelf life. Ask me how I know that bit of worthless trivia!

FABO certainly is pretty unfriendly to people interested in restoration details. Sometime even just discussing how things were originally done.

Treed!

Today I went to install the U-joints and not only are the cross-shafts longer than the Spicer 1310 that came out, the yoke ears are sprung inward, one pretty visibly.

Parts store shop guy was actually pretty helpful. He thought heat was the only way it could be fixed without cracking. Of course someone at a sister shop hasn't returned his O-A set so he couldn't do it.
Now that may not seem helpful but knoweldge is - and my regualr mechanic may be able to do it or send me to someone.

The real insight was how he avoids this situtation. instead of using a press or clamp he puts the shaft in a vise and punch through the end cap and jeeps punching until the opposite end cap has moved. Then goes the other way.

My thinking is the books assume the joints will get regreased. But lets be real. Not likely when they are to the point they need replacing. Better off destroying the caps then getting in this bind. Counter guy told me this is the only place he's seen it done this way but makes sense to him too.
You mean you’ve never done it that way?!?!

Well I slept at a Holiday in express last night and it is thong Thursday! Actually, on USAF Aircraft all rubber seals o rings etc. are dated and after ten years you toss them and also change them on the plane. Big PIA most basses don't do it.

Morning!
2 degrees below freezing and going to 3 above. This day in 1996 was -42:eek:More firewall work today. Unless i get sidetracked.
MRI on saturday. Funny, i had to wait 7 months for a ct scan. Now, if i need surgery, life may end up on hold. Hoping im not down for too long.

@halifaxhops

Where does the decal go question. Figure you'll provide a non-snarky response
Already have a pm going with him. Interesting question actually. Do not think there is a written answer to it. I think I know who might know the answer though. I get the restoration guys and try to help them out when I can. One of my good customers is getting his car judged this week by David Wise this week, not cheap. Found a ton of nos parts for him in the past. Some serious unobtainable stuff. Great example just found him the NOS wire from the e advance to the solenoid on the carburetor. I am in the wrong business!

One of his reports.

Friend is paying 4K for the re-inspection again! After fixing the found issues

Some of you may be happy to know that I have cheated death once again. Actually twice. Two different flights. Now here in crazy Saigon on the way to my hometown, Vinh Long. Got to stop and buy some Beer..
Last haircut I got at Exchange was done by a Viet girl, did a great job. Was mentioning you as having a place over there, she asked where and all I could think was the Delta lol! What is your town name?

Put my passport on my work truck today even though I have an enhanced drivers license as we have a communications site in Point Roberts. To get there I have to go into and across Canada then back down into US Territory so 4 border crossings in one trip ugh! Have a Great Day All!
