Stop in for a cup of coffee

Ordered a camber/caster gauge.. kinda excited to have a car that isn't just a guess and close enough :)
Back in tech school we got graded in alignment class by how the car drove. Me behind the wheel, the instructor in the passenger seat and a student in the back seat steering the car. It should go straight down the road with hands off the wheel and the guy in the back can make it drift to the left or right by sliding one way or the other in the back seat. I got an A on that one. My 69 Road Runner.

The amount of caster a dragster runs depends on the track, driver, and goals. For example, a crew chief might use 3 degrees of positive caster on the right side and 1 degree on the left, while a rookie driver might use 4 degrees on the right and 1 degree on the left.

Kind of excited to see how having more positive caster will feel when driving with a older car

When you only have a half turn of the steering wheel lock to lock caster is very important :steering:

It holds the road better. It helps make up for Mopar's "loose feeling" power steering. I don't have much caster on my 66 (manual steering) and it is still a little tough to maneuver at low speeds.

Outstanding! Never knew you had this education under your belt Mike.

I have a 20:1 manual box on mine... couldn't find a pump/brackets for cheap so just got a new manual box.. prolly shoulda went 24:1, just won't try to turn when going slow :)

No parallel parking? :poke:

When I built my dirt race kart I went to the thrift store and bought a bathroom scale for setting the corner weights. About the only adjustment we had was the spindle height. Had to make 3 shims the same height as the scale for the 3 corners not being weighed. Yeah they make 4 corner scales, but they were prohibitively expensive

Morning coffee drinkers and tea sippers. Nice day here but still a little humid, dogs didn't care though. Made me some oatmeal and coffee.

Paint finally showed up... gonna wait til i have the car back together so i can pull it out of the garage then shoot the fenders..

The little I know and I could be wrong but was taught to take the wheels off the ground and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth a little and tighten the box up until you feel some drag on the steering wheel and back the adjuster off a 1/4 turn.
When i did the manual box in the Fargo, i had buddy gently rock steering back and forth until there was very little play. Could actually feel it in the screw, as it went slack. Worked very well. 65 mph with one hand on the wheel.

my new box from PST is so tight you can't turn it by hand (out of the car) i thought it was broken at first, they said that's how they come

Heres my view for the next few hours. Tough on neck and shoulders. Plus the climbing in and out is not easy.

I got the wife off to work. Lauren starts back with the city tomorrow. Full time employee and not a temp this time. $18/hr to start. Then I will be by myself all day! Retirement is back!
It's good she is working. I just got done paying some bills. $330 for utilities. (gas and electric). $224 for cell phone. (3 of us with unlimited data)
$862 for 6 mo. of car insurance. (3 cars. 1 is just liability) $364 for cable and internet. (now that's a rip off.) as soon as the City's fiber get's hooked up we will have 10x the speed in and out for about $110 and then $78 for You Tube TV. That's about half price of the cable with 10g. speeds and as many or more tv channels. We could cut back to 1 gig internet and YT TV for $140.
