Whelp, Martha Stewart sucessfully turned a Craftsman tool box into a sewing box. She did the base of the chest and is working on the top box now..

Good morning all. Or is it afternoon? I'm completely time warped after being up most of the past 36 hours.

It was a long night. The donor was a 20 year old girl in DE that had been in a critical car accident and was on life support with no chance of survival. At 10:30 am, the family said their final goodbyes and consented to take her off life support.

Her liver was harvested, prepped and flown by helicopter to Hahnemann Hospital in Philly where the transplant surgery began at 2:17 pm today.

Surgery is expected to take 12-14 hours and will be followed by 3-7 days of ICU. After that is another 10-30 days in the hospital before transitioning to the next phase of recovery. It will be a long time before we will know if we are out of the woods on any part of this.
whewwe.. quite the ride there Dave.. crazy, so sad for the other family and yet potentially so glad for yours.. I hope it works out as a plus

well, I wasn't going to say anything because it's kinda embarrassing to me, but I have to admit I am freaking out.

Now that Mr. Stan lost his battle with cancer I am really freaking out because I am not really able to enjoy the 4th because last week I was at the doc and he thinks I have abnormal lump in my breast. So I go this week to check it out with another doc.

I was doing fine with it and I didn't want to tell anyone because its a woman problem and its kinda embarrassing and I don't want to bring anyone down. Now with everything, I am freaking out and I am having strange thoughts that I might be joining those who are doing burnouts in the better place.
Sadly -death is inevitable.. how you live life is optional - Stan had a good life, of that I am sure. We deal with problems as they arise and, no matter what the outcome, forge forward and keep your chin up. Do what you can to stay ahead of it all and FIGHT like the dickens if something does come up!!

This long weekend just got longer. The transplant surgeon just called me.

The transplant was aborted. Part way into the procedure, the carotid artery in his neck blew out and they went into full emergency mode to save his life. It took 2 hours to get it done.

He is in the ICU now and will stay there for 3-4 days to recover from this. When he wakes up in a few hours they will tell him what happened and that the liver went to another recipient.

Now we wait for him to recover and another liver to become available.
you can tell I was back reading - sorry to hear it - there is still hope though

Looks great as is. I'm not a big fan of too much bling. Then again, it ain't my car!
I agree with you. It's been a long couple of days and I'm just doing stuff to keep my mind occupied. I just thought I'd mock it up and see what it looked like. My perspective is warped right now so I figured I throw it out there...

Well he survived today at least and tomorrow is another day. Such is the rough road of late-stage liver cancer and organ transplants. It's all a giant gamble and no guarantees.

2 years ago he was released from prison after a 3 year sentence due to multiple DUIs. We rescued him at the behest of my mother-in-law. He was indigent and sleeping behind a dumpster waiting to die after the cancer diagnosis in prison. We got him a place to live, medical assistance, welfare, the works. At the time they had only given him 6 months to live and we have gotten him this far. We're not about to give up now.

so he's lucky to be alive and even luckier to have you folks looking out for him.. bonus miles are exactly that - I do hope he appreciates it all

well, I am still a bit "shell shocked" about yesterdays ride in the Scamp - I'll get over it but right now I am grouchy - and I have to go to work tomorrow.. at least the weather looks good - gonna take the scooter... see? silver lining.. :D - cyas!

Scooter rides always make workdays better..

Fell asleep on the sofa. The wife and daughter have gone to bed. I'm gonna have a beer and a burger and follow soon.

See ya all tomorrow...g'nite.

Just got done with the fireworks display in town. Have a great 4th.
