Stop in for a cup of coffee

When I used to turn wrenches for money in the 70-early 80's a woman had one she called Betsey in a 60's Dart. The rear seal was blown out and for years she did not want to fix it. There were a ton of times she brought it in for gas and when we checked the oil it was almost always 3-4 qts low. It finally got hit and totaled with around 150k on it. She gave it for the shop to use for parts and we pulled the engine and the pan had sludge molded in the pan with and you can see where the crank turned in it. Told myself the motor was bulletproof!

I hear you on the parts. Here we have the worst NAPA ever. Never has anything even the chemicals are usually on the shelf with just one. I web it or go 35mi to the closest pep boys and usually have good luck. Order it online, get a 25% discount and by the time I arrive it is there. The warehouse for the area is pretty close to the store. Great group of senior retired mechanics working the parts counter. No so good with the new stuff.

yea I have been threatening to put a slant six car together myself .....when you go to shows these days every other car was a slant six car and now has some joe dirt small block in it.

what happened to the untouched originals ....one barrel and all.

last time I had a slant six car ....I went and put the money into a v8 swap .....4 speed, disk brakes and 8 3/4 ....which was all nice but when it was all done ....I just wanted my old car back the way it was when I got it .....slant six/ 3 speed and all.

I didn't get the impression by your posts that you are that age ...I took you for being younger ......like me ....like late 20s .....maybe mid 30s at the most LOL

Speaking of ...I just remembered that I need to check the parts stores high and low to see anyone has a power steering box re-seal kit.

The 74 SE I have is a 225 1 bbl. Unfortunately I am dropping a mild 440 into it more of something to keep me busy when the growing season is not going on here. Been a long time since I had a fun old car. I think I might give the engine and 904 to someone that can use it and is broke. Maybe help me put in the 440?

No I just keep by beer glass half full. Most of it comes from being a retired MSGT in the USAF. Always worked with late teens early 20's. They called me SGT pops! Kind of funny. I have to show you the modified tail piece on the dart, A going to retire gift says POPMOBILE

are you going to make your own K-frame ??

I made one before by bolting up the transmission so that way the engine will show you where its supposed to be.....then I took a slant six K and cut the perches off and made my own perches and made the mounts to match and interlock.

I am fixin to do it again with the 70 swinger 383 car ...this time I will take pics

I don't like or trust shumachers because you have to trim the driver side perch on the pad mount and so much that it makes it weak which is no wonder they are always pushing torque straps ....when you call them up to order ...every other second the sales man will ask ...would like to order a torque strap....probably for a reason

I am doing the shumacher kit. Headers, mounts, TORQUE STRAP but an going to beef up the drivers mount when it is ground out. I purchased it right after getting the car and really did not look into the swap that closely. If It was today I would do the K member.

I hear the headers are pretty good .....pretty nice penny too.

They will probably be better than what I do ....I use the log type C-body manifolds ......they are the ones people usually throw away and certain castings actually fit like a glove. Last time I had 20 bucks into a pair and they fit perfect and car was finished in a jiffy LOL

If your doing an auto, everything will go together well ....a 4 speed complicates things because headers or any exhaust don't usually like Z-bars and then you end up going with some freaky deaky hydraulic set up LOL

The headers are really nice, I bought the uncoated and painted them and wrapped them with heat tape. The only thing I do not like id the flanges are 2 bolt not 3 bolt. I was thinking a 3 on the colum but decided it was a pain, on the floor would not fit the old mans car thing I have going. The interior is perfect 1970's crushed beige velor and buckets just would look wrong and mamma like sitting in the middle of a bench seat. When I got it the package tray had shag carpet! All of our other cars have consoles.

How did you get so into the old cars, really not typical today unless it has a controller? My dad was a really frugal German. One year I wanted a mini bike because everyone had one I guess iw was around 10 so he took a motor off of a lawn mower and slapped it on an old bike. Kind of got me into it especially when he forgot to add brakes.

Wow, Just saw on the news in the Harrisberg a guy shot at some kids after they hit his car with a snowball. I would have been dead that was winter sports growing up along with skitching!

That's great!!!!! You must have done a lot with the yard. Great way to learn.

Kind of quiet here this morning. I have been up forever this morning and just waiting for the sun to come up so I can plow us out. I think we missed the bulk of it, The beagle just came in and only her belly is wet, My snow gauge!

I did ..... not much else to do. I was living a pretty pointless existence before moving into the yard. Everyone in this life needs a purpose or the days can be pretty long and boring. Its pretty scary walking around with no point to your life like I did. ..... then the auto industry changed that

What was your favorite car so far? Mine was a AMC gremlin with a bone stock 500 caddie motor with a powerglide. Somehow we made it fit. If I remember the driveshaft was like 3 in in length. Great wheelies if you touched the gas.

I hear you. The military did it for me. I got sick of waking up in the morning and and had to decide what to wear.

Morning all. Just rain here so far, but there're saying we could get a couple of inches today. That's nothing, Although people in this area of the country can't drive , even if it rains. I'm from Alaska. Thinking about pulling the transmission out of the 92 Ram Cummins today for a rebuild. Got the heavy up parts coming.

Before I knew anything about cars I was reading a magazine that was laying around......it featured the mopar nats 1999 and I saw a pic of a sublime road runner 70 and I was so fascinated by its looks that I cut out the pic and kept it with me for a few years after that.

Now that I know more about cars I would go for a GTX before a road chikin

My favorite car now would be a 73 or 74 duster. ..... those are so cool

When I first moved to San Jose there was a dusting of snow and they declared an emergency! I just drove from Long Island there in 38 driving hours and did better than the locals.

I remember the coolest guy in school had a GTX and it flew. No idea what he had in it. He was a SR and I was in 8th.

I drove a 68 Road Runner 383 4spd car to High School in 1973. Had THE fastest car on the lot !!

Wow I am bored waiting for the sun and I think it is time to stop with the coffee, my bald spot is tingling!!!!!
