Stop in for a cup of coffee

Good morning;

I'm having issues with my temp gauge on my 68 cuda. It's always pegging to the H. I heard there may be a faulty relay of some sort. Is that true? And where is it that l might change it out?

Could be the voltage limiter on the back of the gauges not grounding properly or going out...

Have you downloaded a copy of the service manual yet??? Electrical diagrams in the back of chapter 8..

Well I caused enough trouble here in a short period, Hey @Raul to test the sending unit at cold it should be around 73 ohms, mid is 23 and dead hot pegged gauge is 10, if it is not around there change it chances are good your gauge is fine since it pegs.
Off to the shop for me maybe work on the hood?

Should be fine, I have to get back into them have a lot of parts to make them, hey you think the batt part is worth it or just make a on car tester?

Test it first, got a ohm meter? Hey what do you know about these so we do not state the obvious.
I know the circuit is good because the needle starts at C and slowly creeps up to H.
Other than that. I don't know much. In the winter, it stays at operating temp. 1/3 climb of needle. In the summer it goes to H. I use a heat sensor gun and it registers about 165 degrees without a thermostat and 185 with a 180 degree thermostat. But the temp gauge reflects engine is overheating. :(

Cool we got a starting point at 165 it should be around 20 +/- ohms, sounds like a bad sending unit, you have a ohm meter and know how to use it?

Batt part? You mean being able to test the gauges off the car without another power source???

Yes, keep it, that's one of the main reasons that I wanted one... :thumbsup:

Trying to pull the gauges out and still have power from the car is a pain in the @ss.... :BangHead:

It's nice to be able to pull the whole cluster and be able to check the gauges on a bench... :D
