Stop in for a cup of coffee

Nice but only in a 50 lb pail and you use 2-4 oz per gallon, lets see.....no way now a pound to try it yes.

Hey, what's the deal with the ton designations on trucks?

And what IS a ton according to you crazy standard/imperial unit dorks?

... which is sorta what I was getting at ...
simply an arbitrary number now adays. However, when the thing started it was to tie it to its total towing capacity counting its own weight.

IE:

1500= Towing + GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) =15,000 pound
2500= Towing + GWVR =25,000 pound
3500=Towing + GWVR = 35,000 pound

A-HA! Finally an explanation!

But how does the 3/4-ton designation fit into this?

Same thing, its a hold over from the old days. a few decades ago, that was the carrying capacity of the truck before the suspension would be fully maxed out.
so..

1/2 ton,3/4,1 ton is the payload capacity of the bed plus passenger compartment.

If you actually look at how the truck is reported to the DOT, its listed as

IE:

Brand.....Total towing........Capacity..........Designation
Dodge........2500..................3/4.............Pickup Truck

once you drive a 3/4 ton pickup ....you will never want to go back to a 1/2 or smaller.

long time ago I had a RAM 1500 5.2 and it was nice and comfy to drive ...almost like a big car. Loaded down with my 20 foot trailer and a dart on it, the rear of the truck would sag and the steering felt more floaty. The regular P -tires even seemed to pudge out on the back of the truck.

Then later I started hauling the same trailer with a 3/4 ton ....(actually a ferd with a diesel ) even with a B-body on the trailer, the rear of the truck isn't even phased and the ride is much more "solid" feeling and seems a whole lot safer.

Odd thing is....the gas mileage is the same loaded or not.

with the polara on the trailer, I was still jamming down the highway at 65 with no strain on the truck with a 3/4 ton........no way the 1/2 performs like that

Has anybody seen carpet underneath the rear seat Pieced in three sections on the 68 barracuda?
Or is this a replacement carpet?
