Well just got an email from the machine shop. Says the block is usable as it sits as long as we change out the cam bearings. So that's 2 shops saying its usable. Guy said he'd change out the bearings for 35 bucks plus the cost of the bearings. Also stated that if we kept the deck height as is, my CR would be about 9.5:1 with the pistons used. about a full point below my intended goal. So that's good newsHehehe....Yup Car Money....
Yeah the Max compression I can get out of these numbers 383 blocks, is 9.65 , using KB400's and the stock 906 heads. That's good enough for a resto project. Now the A990, Stroker, is a completely different matter. I'll probably go for 10 or 10.5, and try to keep a dynamic of 8.5 , to use pump gas, but that motor with breath very deep, with the other ingredients Im using.Well just got an email from the machine shop. yeah, according to desktop dyno, i'll still be flirting near that 475-500 hp mark with the Marsh heads. so the compression ratio drop is killing about 100 hpYeah the Max compression I can get out of these numbers 383 blocks, is 9.65 , using KB400's and the stock 906 heads. Yeah, well check the dynamic ratio, because you don't want to be over 8.5, if ya wanna use pump gas...So. yur probably okyeah, according to desktop dyno, i'll still be flirting near that 475-500 hp mark with the Marsh heads. so the compression ratio drop is killing about 100 hp
yeah im under that. I'd figured my 10.5 to 1 ratio to be right at the 8.5 dynamic ratio so i should be well under it for 91- 93 octanceYeah, well check the dynamic ratio, because you don't want to be over 8.5, if ya wanna use pump gas...So. yur probably ok
A lot of the Dynamic ratio depends upon the camshaft, used, So be aware of that. Overlap in the numbers makes a big difference.yeah im under that. I'd figured my 10.5 to 1 ratio to be right at the 8.5 dynamic ratio so i should be well under it for 91- 93 octance
yep, planning on using this cam...A lot of the Dynamic ratio depends upon the camshaft, used, So be aware of that. Overlap in the numbers makes a big difference.
Yeah, I like that cam, But you might want to look for something with a bigger centerline , if running an Auto...yep, planning on using this cam...

whats the deal with the CL?Ok... Good
noisy? as in rough idle or noisy as in metallic grinding? Not crazy on the comp HL series. I have one in a big block and it's noisy. Do some research on those cams
Noisy as in a solid cam that's too loose.noisy? as in rough idle or noisy as in metallic grinding?
hmm what cam along those specs would you recommend? Been considering a custom grind from Oregon cam grinders as well.Search the internet and Moparts. The reports are all the same I have a HL295 in mine and it's noisy. Always sound like the valves need adjusted.
I'm not the cam picker outter expert lol.hmm what cam along those specs would you recommend? Been considering a custom grind from Oregon cam grinders as well.
I mean , the centerline of the camshaft setup. I like to use something around 112 deg. I see the one you like is 110 or 108 deg. Bigger the centerline, better the idle...whats the deal with the CL?
It lives on the Floor??
