Still sick....
Mild weather but damp.
Took some nighttime cold and flu stuff, before bed. i feel hungover. Yuck.
Waiting on towtruck to bring dead one in,sounds like typical 3.8 L gm intake failure. They just paid gm 2500 to fix it. Bet tech dropped the ball on his diagnosis.....

I saw that. 1200 with valves and springs.....
Man, I just added that all up. I could build with those heads and those parts for no joke, half the cost of that crate engine with labor costs. I came in at 4900 for that thing, using prices off Jegs dot com and the labor cost spread sheet from the machine shop i just dropped off at this morning.

I purposely put that up cause I thought it was high. Although I have no idea how good or what value of individual parts. That said, your $ figure sounds low. What does just a new 440 block cost?

Chris is going to use a 71 block he already has...

Seems a little low to me as well...

that's not a new block that is used on that one, that's a 78 casting number and the water port shape backs that up. But a good core around here goes from 150-500 depending on the year, so you're still looking at less than half. That rotating assembly can be had from jegs complete for $2039 shipped. The heads are just under 1200 complete, roughly 650 in labor costs, cam, intake valve train probably another 500~. plus gaskets. It's a rough estimate but still WAY less than their asking price

yep but its a 70

Honestly, i think im gonna save up over the next year and try to get the Sidewinder heads from Todd Marsh.
I think you are better off just grabbing a used or reman 6.1L modern Hemi with a 6 speed tranny and 3.55 rear gears

Bone stock in your car and it will do 0-60 in around 3.5 secs, 1/4 mile in 11.5 secs and 0-100 in 9 secs. And it will get 20 mpg on the highway.

I thought about that but I wanna stay big block. Besides, the suspension is set up for the 440. and I've got everything but the heads to complete that build

The Trickflow heads are the Shizzit, Chris
Yes they are. and they are priced accordingly. That said, the Marsh heads have a really good reputation and a full port job and custom set up for my combo will cost me about 1300 bucks shipped to my door. Flowing as well as the trickflows out of the box.
