The one on my 69 has been restored, BUT after washing yesterday, some of the black paint is chipping off. I guess I can repaint it. Thanks...
Tim, I bought one for my 68 GTS, 68 only. I found a guy in So Cal. that had one restored and re anodized, but not painted. I got it for $600, so , yes they are very expensive. Still have to detail paint this one...

Mich I have been looking at zinc plating and anodizing for the vac advances seems pretty simple actually.

Mine is good, just needs some touch up, want to do it right the first time.

So, 440 block that was in question has been dropped off at a new machine shop this morning. Guy is going to inspect it for me, for free and give me one last opinion before I decide what to do with it. To refresh memories, original machine shop failed to deck it, line hone it, didn't hot tank it. They did bore and hone it and improperly install the cam bearings. I've taken it to 2 other shops since and have gotten split decisions, one saying the block is trash and the other saying the bores and hone job are fine and within specs and that they could finish the job. So we shall see today.

How much machining you need to do on a block has a lot to do with how much power you are considering making with it. A stockish street 440 probably does not need to be decked, just checked, factory specs were horrible... If you don't deck it, might not need to line hone it... IMO.

well that's why I'm having it checked. Here's the thinking. I have a virgin, 1970 440 block that's in decent shape and i have this 73 block, with balanced rotating assembly and L2335 forged pistons. Original plans were copying a build from a well known member here that netted over 550 hp with heads that flowed roughly what the new trick flows do. but that required a 0 deck. So now that I have the polara and depending on the condition of the Poly 318, since the 73 block was NOT decked, I could throw a set of used, but good 906 factory heads on it and make a tad over 400 hp and put in the polara and then start over with my 440 build with the 70 block since its a virgin block. Considering body work will take me another year on the dart, this may end up being the best solution anyway. But it depends on IF the 73 block is usable. The polara, I'm just screwing down sheet metal to the floor boards and making the suspension and brakes safe to drive. then its a cruiser from there
