A 7” rim width with a 4” back space has 3” in front of the hub face and 4” behind. An 8” rim with 5” backspacing has 5” behind and the same 3” in front. I don’t understand how adding an extra inch to the backside of the rim gains clearance on the brakes.

The lower fender lip, in the front, it hits now at times and the new brakes have a wider track then the ones on there. Here

Then with the front spacing still being the same, it will only get worse if the new hubs stick out further.

Ok, that makes a little more sense. You need to reduce the front spacing not add to the rear so I was scratching my head about it.

Just make sure the extra 1.5” in the rear isn’t going to cause the inboard side of the rear wheels to rub on the fender wells under suspension compression. That and clearance to the rear springs.
