Obviously your climate is better suited for it, but does it fully run your house?
It will run everything and still put enough back on the grid, meter turns backwards, to "store" enough to power to run everything at night, it is called a grid tied system. With a nice credit at the end of the year.

VAFB just installed a pretty sizable solar farm where the off base (unsecured) housing used to be. Normal weather patterns have us covered in fog for 3 months out of the year. Not saying that the Feds are particularly good at cost efficient engineering .

The thing is, the panels dont use the light to make power. They use the radiation to make power. And that gets thru the fog. just a small loss.

Sweet. Here's the sad part... Indiana just passed a law last year that stops the turning of the meter backwards. So once your production equals your usage, there's no credit or storing it. Also, all solar/wind systems must now have an anti-backfeed system that prevents power from feeding the grid line if the grid loses power. They had several linemen get killed last year due to that they claimed.

And our system is 40 panels, all with micro inverters, ground mount, and was about 55 grand. Will take a long time to break even. Am banking on electric rates to keep on going up....

fog and clouds are essentially the same thing, water vapor, so would the panels still produce on heavily cloudy days?

wow! I got quoted a shade under 20 grand yesterday.

The last part is true in CA as well. All I do if/when the power goes off, I use my 2K Honda gen to supply power to the panels making them think they are still connected to the grid. Runs everything that way.

And it looks like you can still get in on "net metering" in your state, till 2022. What I read.

ah i was understanding that it had to be installed prior to Jul 1 of last year. Thats good to know

Ground mount? Or on your roof? seems like a great price.
roof, ground mount is an extra 2k. The question is, this property is 98% wooded. I don't know if i'll have the room or if I'll have to clear cut a bunch to do it. i've also got an onsite consult scheduled from one of the local solar panel companies to get their engineer's opinion as well but its next month

Go for it!
