Stop in for a cup of coffee

AC problems by the dozen. Thought I would throw a charge in my Swinger and maybe go to a car show tomorrow. Hooked up the gauges, vac'd it down to 28". Added a little freon on the low side. Half a can, 3/4 then Boom!!!
Blew the hose off the condenser. Compression clamp not a worm clamp and hose onto copper line, no barbs. Cut the clamp off and the bad end of hose. Damn hose is too short. I need 3/8 soft copper and a flare tool. Go to Lowes and buy a coil then to Harbor Freight for a cheap flare tool. Fixed it up, vac'd it down, threw in a charge, pressures are 60/250. Duct temp is 50°. That will work. Start it back up for a test drive, get 50 feet from the driveway and Boom!. Blew the other end off by the dryer. Same deal, same clamp, same 3.8 copper with no barbs. Argggh! i THINK i WILL pull the line and take it to the local radiator shop. may be they will have some inverterted flare ends and can make me a new hose.
Would like to get my AC working in the Duster. Still R12 and I think it just needs charged. Saw some cans at Carlisle last year. Should have grabbed one.

Hey. I woke up closer to yesterday than i wanted to.
Moon is too bright. Others snoring.

Anyone here still? Question, is the flex plate the same between the 904 and 727?

There are 4 different flex plates....

You have to determine if your crank bolt pattern is symmetrical or non-symmetrical (offset)....

Then there is a 10" or 11" bolt pattern for the torque converter....

Measure the diameter for the bolt pattern for the torque converter and then order the proper flex plate - symmetrical or non, then 10" or 11" for the converter.... They're not very expensive, $16 for a new one...

Put the new fancy chrome master cylinder on yesterday. Had a heck of a time getting the lines bleed. I finally had to sit in the car, up on the lift, pumping the brakes as he called for it to get it done. Nothing is ever easy on this car.

I have a chrome vapor lock that will go with the chrome master cylinder if you're interested.... :steering:

So anyway.

Got a message today from my friend and fellow FABO member Kegan , he found a 64 440 nearly complete in a nearby junkyard. With the trim I need.

I know Kegan.... He's a good guy...

I also know two Keegans that are good guys.... :D

Not much....heat index 115 yesterday. I just don't like really hot weather anymore. Way to early here for these temps.

We're getting some hot stuff starting today through the weekend.... 93 today, 96 tomorrow and Sunday.... With high humidity....

Autozone sells a self bleeding kit, 8 bucks. Works better than anything else I've ever tried. A few months back, had to replace the entire brake lines and hoses on my jeep, all fluid gone, it bled all 4 corners to a rock hard pedal in less than 15 minutes

You said rock hard.... :D

That's not hot yet....getting closer. Heat index yesterday was 115. Today cools down to 107. Nothing worse getting up at 04am and hearing the AC running...ugh!!

I have five blocks coming

I get a brick/block of dry ice and put it in the bottom of the cooler, wrapped in a couple layers of aluminum foil and then put a layer of ice on it and then put the beverages in.... It will freeze the melted ice on the bottom of the cooler and last the whole weekend... Just keep throwing some fresh ice in the morning and at night and it will keep everything nice and cool.... Then when you can finally get the frozen bottom ones by Saturday or Sunday when I leave on Thursday for a show like the Nats...

We been in the upper 70's low 80's. A lot warmer earlier here this year, been in the 90's since late April. We had our first 100 day in early June, a month early. I have a window in my garage where I keep my to old cars. I went last week and bought a nice window a/c for it and loving it.

When I built the engine with Asa and Cliff in Tulsa about 5 years ago, it was highs of 111° and 114° for the whole week that I was there....

We would work in the garage for 45 minutes to an hour, then go inside for a cool down break in the house....

550 when it gets really hot in the afternoon I also run a fan to help circulate the air.

So far its been nice knocks the humidity out which is what I really like. I set the a/c thermo at 85 so it doesn't have to work too hard.
