T for 2

I always thought it would be awesome to have a twin turbo twin carb, i was thinking of a nice big block with the cross ram intake all plumbed up. But this is just as awesome, it's different and that makes it cool.
Thanks Matts440,
We are definitely going to be different, that's for sure. I think Larry is starting to lean towards the Fitech fuel injection. There is a lot more to come, stay tuned.

Might be easier to tune with the fuel injection over the carbs on a dual set up

Well Larry was over yesterday. We managed to get the oil return lines ran. We decided to run hard line instead of the braided steel flexible hose. I had some aluminum fuel line left over so we decided to use it. It is smaller in outside diameter and because it is rigid it will help to assure a downward slope. We drilled and tapped the fuel pump block off plate on the passenger side for oil return and we just did the same to the side of the timing cover on the driver's side. Larry hand polished the lines with some metal polish I had but I know that when we take it all apart to install all of the gaskets he will polish it better (just the way he is). We are very close to doing just that.
On the brake side of things, you can see in the pictures that there are now braided steel lines connected to the master cylinder. These look great but we are still having fitting issues at the proportioning valve. Enjoy these few pictures.

Merry Christmas Everybody

Well another weekend has come and gone. Here are the progress photos.
IMG_20161230_191116865-2672x1503.jpg

We replaced the straight oiling fittings with 90 degree fittings. We also installed the oil cooler.

IMG_20161231_174047036-2672x1503.jpg
We removed the master cylinder, drilled the lower holes and installed button head bolts. We also connected the lines to the proportioning valve.
IMG_20161230_191151314-2672x1503.jpg
We installed the fuel cell in the bed.

  • Okay guys,
Sorry for not updating last week. Larry's 2001 Dakota needed the link from the steering wheel to the rack replaced and you knew that wasn't "just coming right out". We wound up breaking a bolt and using vise grips, PB Blaster and heat to extract the broken bolt so it took up a considerable part of the day. Add to it the fact that my 2007 Dodge Caliber R/T needed a lower ball joint replacement and we really got very little done. This week the Caliber returned with and unbelievable clunk/rattle in the front end. Of course this kind of stuff ALWAYS happens when I am out of town for my job. My wife tells me about the noise and you start to think "did I tighten the lug nuts enough? Is there an issue with the Chinese ball joint (you can't find anything American anymore)? We traced the problem to a loose sway bar bolt. We tightened it well but I guess that the threads had enough debris in them that it appeared to be tight enough but clearly wasn't. We chased the link stud with a dye and tapped the nut, problem solved.
Now for the truck in question. We took everything back apart so we could install all of the gaskets. But before we do that we need to detail areas that are harder to get to with the turbos and exhaust installed. We removed everything and Larry painted them (pictures of the painted exhaust are coming (I had to go out with my wife and some neighbors from my old neighborhood arrrgh). I did get a couple of pics with the unpainted and unwrapped exhaust on the floor. Hopefully next week will be more exciting.

Well guys it's been a few weeks since I updated this thread. We started redoing what was left of the awful factory wiring.(most of the factory electrical wiring was ripped out a couple of years ago) and we hope to finish today. Larry tells me that in about 2 weeks he will be in a position to order his dual quad FiTech EFI system so there should be a lot of more interesting stuff coming. For now we made a bracket out of a piece of aluminum and mounted two 6 circuit fuse blocks to it, drilled several holes and used self tapping screws for grounding points. The bracket is positioned like that temporarily to make it easy to work on, we will flip it over and semi conceal it under the fender lip. We should get more done today and I will post more pictures soon.

Massive spaghetti mess before.

I progress, less spaghetti.

I really like the spoiler molded into the bottom of the front fenders.

So I Know it's been a while since the last T for 2 update. We have been SLOWLY working through rewiring and cleaning up the appearance of the engine bay. This meant removing a lot of unused wiring, creating a power distribution panel that mounts under the divers fender (this has 5 20 amp and 5 10 amp fused circuits), encasing the remaining wiring and finally sanding and spray bombing the engine compartment.
Larry got the Fitech dual quad power adder system and it's sitting in the garage. We already mounted the battery and fuel cell in the bed and removed the factory tank. The cables for the battery are run to the front and we have checked all of our rewired circuits (lights starter etc.). We only had one issue and that was with the ground that goes to the rear lights. Funny how one wire can cause so many headaches. Also while you were in the dark we bled the brakes. Going to be interesting adding all this extra power with untested brakes LOL. Anyway here are a few pics.

Looking good and clean, nice job on the wiring.
Thanks! We are hoping to finish cleaning up the suspension and K member next Saturday and hopefully start putting the exhaust back together. Getting the fuel injection really motivated us, we are trying to get it together by the end of April. Additionally we have to work on my Dart cleaning up a few wiring issues and installing my TSP distributor so that I can run timing control.

as promised we finished cleaning and painting everything and we started putting everything back together again. So we finally put the header gaskets on and bolted up the headers. We wrapped the exhaust pipes and mounted the turbos. Next week ought to be a lot of fun. Here's a few pics.

  • Ok,
So it's Sunday morning and it's time your T For 2 update. Well I wish that we would have gotten more done yesterday but Larry's other truck needed lower ball joints installed and my Dodge Caliber need it sway bar links put in. You always think you have every tool in the book until you try to tackle a job. We had an OTC tool bot didn't have the right size spacer to get the ball joint back in. Needless to say that all this shot up the better part of Saturday. We managed however to reinstall the inner fenders and we got the cold end of the driver's side buttoned up. Check out the gray spacers that Larry made at work using their CNC machine. They look store bought and they add a really finished look to the system as they help to hold the tubing in position. We would have finished the Passenger side but we ran out of clamps. We also got the Fitech dual quad throttle bodies bolted down. Next week we are going to run the fuel lines and hopefully connect the the wiring for the Fitech. He is going to use timing control but he is going to try his original distributor as it is already locked out because it came from a factory fuel injected engine. If it doesn't work well then he's going to buy the same TSP billet distributor I bought from Johnny Pace. I doubt if we will be able to fire it next Saturday but we are CLOSE. Up next after this thread will be timing control, distributor and degreed harmonic balancer install on my Dart. Have a great Sunday!

Looking better and better. Awesome work, almost there, can't wait to see how it all runs and drives like.

Awesome build. What brand and size are the turbos? I am wanting to put a turbo/ turbos on my 360 magnum engine

I'm not as far as you but feel the same way about mine build. How much boost can those throttle bodys handle?
They say 25 lbs of boost. I guarantee you we won't be anywhere near that with a stock 318. He is also building a stroker 440 based engine. This one just has to hold up until he finishes that build.

Thats not bad of a psi rating. True don't want to blow that engine. Going to swap the twins over to the stroker then??

Yes that's the plan. Like they say "Too much is NEVER enough" LOL

Okay so we didn't get it started this weekend but we are CLOSE. I gave up my recently bought degreed harmonic damper to the cause as Larry's didn't get delivered on Friday as promised. We managed to get all of the clamps installed on the passenger side and then we find that we were short two 3" clamps. We used a couple of regular hose clamps we had until we can get the proper clamps. I worked on wiring the Fitech while Larry worked on the turbo oil feed and return lines. We installed the O2 sensor and Larry's Unilite distributor. I know that it is not what is recommended by Fitech but if it doesn't work out he will be ordering a TSP distributor from Johnny Pace. We made a tee for the coolant temp sensor so the Fitech and gauge temp sensors were both connected. We also installed extra wire looms to keep the plug wires off of the hot exhaust. We should have done this before the turbos were installed as working with two 6" extensions and 2 universal joints was a PIA. Anyway we are looking to run the fuel system next week and HOPEFULLY start it. Stay Tuned.......... Pictures!
