Hey-
I Just took my '68 Barracuda-stock 340
out from winter storage this past Sat.
Changed oil, checked everything and went for a ride.
Hear slight tapping sound from motor (goes faster when revved).
Remember hearing it last year also.
Car starts great, runs fine, no smoke etc.
Is this normal for this motor or could something be wrong?

Thanks

Most likely the valves need adjusting. Hyd. or solid lifters?

hydraulic lifters in 340's .... one is most likely stuck.

Valvetrain noise = 1/2 engine speed... tap..tap..tap...
Bottom end noise= 1x engine speed.. knock...knock...knock..

or could be an exhaust leak......get the stethascope out..

If you don't have a stethescope, you can put a length of rubber hose to your ear and use that. I have both and I actually prefer the hose.

I hope it is the exhaust. Good luck.

An exhaust leak between head and manifold on a specific cyclinder can sound like a rocker or valve, even with a stethoscope. Pull the spark plug wires of on that bank, one at a time and see which cyclinder it is and check to see if there is exhaust leaking under that manafold port. That was what mine was.

Ditto on the possible exhaust leak. I had a van once that I thought had a burned valve. Turned out to be a small leak between the manifold & head. Fingers crossed.
