Top 10 fly by's

Cool stuff! Here is one I like from the Reno air races. This is Rare Bear. Not as low as some of them guys but he is going about 500 MPH in an old WWII Navy fighter.

Best one I remember was at the GCA RADAR shop at Miramar, the Blue Angels were practicing about 72? Bear in mind they were flying F-4 Phantoms back then---put enough engine on a brick, it'll fly. Two would "corkscrew towards a third, also rolling. With wings vertical, they were not more than a wingspan above the ground.

This is funny:

Yea I could'nt believe how fast and how low those guy's where going. They would really have to have their nuts strapped on really, really tight for some of that stuff!!

That had to be "FIFI", and it's not just "an" B-29, it is ---last I heard--- the ONLY B-29 that is in flying condition

Sounds like you didn't get out to see her

B-29 "Doc" is being restored to alleged flyable status, but I don't know how close they may be:

well my boss an ex-crew chief in the air force said it was cause it had the large rear stabilizer and almost full glass cockpit area, and something about the shape of the wings... he also said that there were maybe three left but u could be right! still really cool tho

There are a few B-29 still around but FIFI is the only one in flying condition. There was another one up in the north pole or some where like that. They were trying to rebuild it and fly it out. They almost had it flying when there was a fire and it burnt to the ground.

That was not the north pole, it was in Greenland, called Kee Bird:

and it's tale of woe is truely sad. A man died during the ordeal, and there is a huge controversy over whether those involved were simply not careful enough---the fire was caused by a jerry-rigged APU in the rear of the aircraft.

Could not remember where it was. Just knew it was some where up north where it is cold. LOL

Thats sweet man real cool to see that is a very rear sight. I use to live in the high desert in Phelan. Was right there where HWY 2 met HWY 138. The Navy F-14's would fly down that valley real low right over my house. I would go running out side yelling YEEEEHHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL Thats one of the reasons I joined the Navy.

Kee Bird's end was an accident. B-29's have alot of electical to operate and the only way to do it on the ground is with Auxillary Power Units. The rear APU wasn't taking gas from the main tanks so a fuel can was rigged above it to gravity feed it. On the final high speed taxi test the fuel can came loose and spilled fuel on the APU. The resulting fire destroyed the airframe.

Most Superfortresses were scrapped after the Korean Conflict. Some were converted to weather duty with the Air Force. Following that they were transferred to the Navy who sent them to China Lake for target practice.
Others were sent to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for the same purpose.

I believe that both FiFi and Doc are from China Lake.

Oh, and yeah, FiFi is the only airworthy airframe at the moment.
Last I heard, Doc was getting there, but lost her hanger and is being stored outside.

FiFi overflew our flag ceremony for veterans at our car show last Saturday. Quite unplanned but very cool.

Awesome. I love the Spitfire one too. I saw that show before I had seen that video. Funny stuff.
