Turbo 383 in a A-body Barracuda

Wow! This wrap is a RPITA!! Way to many angles on my piping. I ripped it off. Gonna leave it alone for now...... Got the crossover and the Dp done at least.
Guess I will start putting the engine in and get it running. Getting tired of messing with it!

The wrap is a pain to put on. You can't see on mine but there are multiple cuts hidden behind the off angles and the next wrap of the pipe. Takes a lot of patience which I usually do not have.

Yeah,
I did get the passenger side header, crossover and Dp wrapped however I ran out so the driverside didn't get done. It will be easy to do it later when I can afford to pick up another 25' roll. Boy it really unravels once it has been cut! I dropped the engine in but for some reason it won't drop all the way in the saddle on the driverside. Not sure but I think the motor mount is hitting the gearbox. I got irritated so I just came in from the shop for the night. Its 1am. It has cooled off now so I can get something done. I have plenty of time. Jobs are scarce and its been a year of searching with no luck yet.. Scary situation! You would think with all the disasters goin on a auto damage appraiser could find work?? Guess everyone has dropped coverage and driving wrecked cars.

On a lighter note,
I am gonna try and get this thing running pretty quick. As soon as its going I will get some video posted!

Ok,
engine is in. Real tight with the plugs/wires installed. I am wondering how well this wrap is gonna work or if I should get something to cover the wires.
Gotta get the trans cleaned up and repainted before I put it back in. Here is a few pick of the progress, not much but something!!:blob:

Looks Good! I put on some spark plug boot sleeves. They are only 8" Long though. You can find it in a roll on ebay but there is only 1 color "white" that I found.

Thanks!
I have seen the chrome looking stuff too. The wires are the cheap accell wires so it wouldn't be a big loss. LoL!

Got a little more done today. Alternator has been relocated and fits real good if I might say! Belt lines up good just need to get one about three inches shorter. Need to get the alternator wires out of the factory loom and rerun those to the driverside. Still gotta finish the plug wires since everything is in place. Starting to look pretty good! I have a fan shroud but can't put my hands on it at the moment so the fan will wait. I think the 850 Holley is too big so waiting on a 750 main body then can start the "Hanger 18" mods. Then the worst part, Electronics need to be wired up as well as the fuel pump and fuel lines.

Soooon I hope!:burnout:

A good tip on the alternator I would use the one off of a newer dodge 135 AMP it will wire up the same way you can use the 70's regulater you just need to change the pulley to a V-belt trust me when all the electronics get hooked up you will need the extra amperage, the 95 AMP alternater is 4 5/8' diamenter and the 135 AMP is 5 5/8's .

Really! Which vehicles are those 135 amp alt's on? And how much? It sounds like something I'd love to have in my Dart!

Yeah I was going to get a mini alternator but fund are depleted at the moment. I was fortunate to spend what I had according to obtain everything else except a few small things like a thermostat and the hose for the MBC and a little wire. This stuff is cheap.
IIRC I once had a stock alternator modded to push 100 amps. I will call the local shop and confirm then I will just do that.. I will be using a yellow top deep cycle Optima. They are awesome batteries. I had two in the Falcon and charged them the night before I went to the track and never touched them through a full day of racing.

Good thing I'm on the downhill side. I WANNA DRIVE IT AGAIN!!!:burnout:I can paint it later....

I just was told to pull the 67 RS/SS Camaro from beside my shop(where it has set for 9 months) and start restoring it so my time on the Cuda will be slim for the next few weeks. Pulling the 350 and glide tomorrow for teardown and deliver the block and heads to the machine shop. Once that is done I will jump back on the Cuda. Gotta get it mobile again then I will start the reinforcement for the shock tower and close up the inner fender. Work-Work-Work! Thank God it has cooled off!!

You can find them on 95 to 98 dodge trucks ,I got mine off of 97 Ram that had a 5.9 in it,if your not sure what amperage it is just take a measuring tape with you.Oh yea looking good Cuudak!

Thanks! Was wondering if I was going to get an answere..Basically the same vehicle my starter came from will provide an alt as well.

Too bad a rad wont fit..I think.:dontknow:

"Hanger 18 mods"? Thats our set-up, that my buddy Andy came up with for the turbo Vega.

Yeppers!
Seems that it works well from what I have read over on TTF... I also intend on boost referencing the rear metering plate w/powervalve per Holleys site.
I printed them both! LoL!

Thanks!!

I just got a wrench thrown into my plans.......... My good friend was over today and seen my 4 speed sitting on my roll-around.
He said,
You wanna 727 with reverse manual and a small stall??? Damn!!

I know its probably the right thing to install the 727.:banghead:
But I sold my pristine auto console and shifter a while back to a guy in California and I have this huge 4 speed hump in my floor(was like that when I got it)..

NOW WHAT DO I DO?????????????:sad8:

Any opinions??? I know it would be better for the turbo as far as keeping it under LOAD!

ARRRGGG!:banghead:

Just worried about the third gear and the 833 handling the projected 800hp that is gonna be thrown at it..

Mostly a street cruzer I think it will live, you will never hook it on the street so it shouldnt matter, just watch the Bang shifting into 3rd at the track when you go. It will be fine!

Yeah I will probably put it in and see how it goes. I know the manual will be a Blast to drive.

:burnout:I don't think it will be like the smiley tho!! LoL!
The black marks will be solid!

It does work good, but it takes some patience getting the tune right and after all it is a carbed blow through so it will have moments where its beyond its limitations.

Sorry folks!!
I was convinced to go with the full manual auto. I traded the 4 speed for the 727 with a bolt in sprag, reverse manual valvebody, red kevlar clutches and a 2800 stall. I know the 4 speed would have been a blast on the street but I have a few friends with their mid to high 6 second 8th S10's and Luv trucks that need their asses cracked by my streetcar!

I still think it will be just as much fun with the auto!

No disappointment here. Its your car, you should build it how you like. :glasses7:. I still think its cool with a full manual auto. And I think you might convert them to the might mopar after you blow their bowties clean off!:prayer:

Well,
not much to update! Waiting on the Automatic trans to be delivered. So while I wait, I have been doing a bit of sheetmetal work. Finished melting all the lead out of the 10 factory seams and welded them solid and filled them with All-metal. Got all the jambs cleaned up and welded the b-pillars solid to the rockers to stiffen the door latch area. The striker area was cracked pretty bad so that had to be welded up. Got the donor trunk gutters welded up too. I still gotta put the new AMD rear body panel on but that will come after I spray the epoxy sealer. The car has been rearended in some point of its exsistance and a typical butcher repaired it with Bondo. Man I hate Bondo. I pulled every stinking dent out with my Eagle II and filed them smooth so just a couple coats of primer will take care of the rest. Had to make a bunch of plugs to repair the rust where the front and rear window trim snaps in. Rust got through to the screw holes for the trim clips. Saturday I will spray the PPG DP90L epoxy to it and cut the window and door jambs in with the QQ1 Poly Electric Blue PPG base and PPG 4000 clear. Then I can get the doors back on as well as the glass so when the trans shows up I can get it in and DRIVE it!

Thats about it for now but here is a few pics to view,
