Victor340 and RPM manifold testing

This customer and member sent me two intakes to port (hopefully he steps in). He will be running a TrickFlow head and luck I just happen to have a set so I did a flow test to get some numbers on number 8 port. That runner had numbers backing up terrible so I unbolted the head and switched over to runner number 6. Although not the best it didn’t go crazy turbulent like the other runner. He wanted the Victor340 done first so the RPM testing will be later. First off some good and bad news. If you remember the new Victor340 that I ported a few weeks ago had every single hole off around .115 so I had to egg shape the holes. Well this intake is new but ordered months ago and the holes are perfect. Pictures show the Superformance Gasket he uses and the gasket I use on my stuff and most of my customers. His gasket is about a perfect match on the TrickFlow head too. I will be hitting this hard tomorrow hopefully but here are some before and after pictures and flow numbers. Oh he had a plastic 1/2 thick spacer that I won’t be able to use because it’s hollow underneath. Guys if you use a spacer and want to blend it spend a few bucks extra for a one inch solid aluminum one. This intake will be tested without a spacer.

Yes thank you. Awesome info…. Now can you please tell us what all those numbers mean? Lol! I think I understand, and I read your posts a lot. Not being a dedicated engine builder and not having even seen the machine you use I have no idea what all those numbers mean other than bigger means more flow.

PB is there a specific gasket you match to? I know chevies have like 3 diferent sizes, not sure bout mopar... plan to do my intake and heads at work when it's slow...

Wow that could be tricky and maybe needs a post of its own at a later date. Simplicity it to much it would be boring, and to few words it wouldn’t get its point across. I have so many unread books on the subject that I had to have. Lol
 
Well guys I laid everything out today and started grinding away. All 8 runners are roughed in and will be hit again after I port the plenum. Power Nap time.

Ok 8:30 quitting time and I have the plenum 90% roughed in. Sure glad I had that Power Nap. I wore out both of my rechargeable headlamps and have them both on charge for tomorrow. Should be on the flowbench by Thursday hopefully.

Hey John thank you for all the great info you post on here. John how does the indy small block single plane compare to the victor340 flow wise. Would be cool if you could flow a port with it on the trickflow head?

Different bolt pattern but I have one I modified. Pretty sure the port are way to big though.

I was just wondering what kind of flow it would show with the trickflow heads, because I am useing a set of them with my indy intake. John what's different with the bolt pattern on the indy intake compared to the Victor340? I had the magnum version indy single plane intake on my 360 with EQ heads. But when I switched over to the Trickflow heads, I had Mike at B3 racing drill the intake for the LA bolt pattern. I was going to buy the LA indy single plane intake for the stroker magnum engine I am wanting to build. But I didn't know the intake bolt pattern was different till now. Is it a easy fix to get the indy intake to match up with the trickflow heads.? John very sorry I didn't mean to get your post side tracked

Ok guys here’s a few pictures of it all finished with a single cut burr. Personally I would run it with this finish but never had a burr that gave me this finish so I run a double cut over everything to “pretty” it up some. Honestly it’s probably faster like this and from now on hopefully guys will tell me the finish they want in it. One thing I don’t do and never will do is a sanding roll finish. Number one is the cost, I don’t want to breathe that crap, and it’s the wrong finish. What I’m firing up the double cut to finish this but what do you guys think.

I have always wondered, pre porting and post porting ( and I admit this could be a dumb question)
but..how similar is the amount of gas that gets funneled into each cylinder. Comparing each one to each other.

Not a dumb question at all but I’m not smart enough to probably give you the scientific answer. But my thoughts are many many of us run different jet sizing front to back. I don’t but many do. I think everything has a “limiting factor”. Cylinder number one may be able to help number 8 out some but at some point I would think it becomes a parasite to the other cylinders. Chock one up to to the fuel injection guys for better tunability. We all know the reasons for using a dual plane as at part throttle they shine but for racing find their limitations. Like I said I’m not book smart but I think that may explain some of the issue. Airflow for dummies by John Cadamore. Lol

I will try to measure up the ports on my modified Indy intake and if it isn’t to far off ( I think it is) when I get a chance I will flow it and my ported Super Victor. I will start another post on that as I’d like to keep this focused on the two intakes I’m currently porting. Flow numbers on the Victor340 will be up today. Wow sorry about that messed up post. I tried to fix it.

Ok scratch these tests. The ports on my Indy are opened to big for the TrickFlow and the Super Victor was quickly ported and installed because the Indy intake was sucking oil. The Super Victor would need lots of work to compete with the port work I’m now doing to a Victor340.
 
I have mentioned this before on here.
Buddy has a black 72 cuda chassis car.
Now is a high 4 sec Best machine big block car.
Used to have a small block stroker roller B1BA deal in it.
Ran 9.06-9.08 with it. Swapped the Victor for a super Victor to try to get it in the 8’s…. Ran mid- high 9 teens
That all said, I don’t remember now what level of work( if any ) was done to the two intakes
 
Now you will see why I love this intake so much. As I said before there’s an issue with this head that I know how to fix but can’t take that hour right now for something going back on my shelf. This intake is trying to fix the issue and did till a certain point. Then it killed the intake too. But as you can see by the before and after numbers he gained some horsepower that will never cost him another cent after the bill is paid.
