What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Got the hood on the car and painted all the inner fender bolts, they all were that gold cad plating.I was too lazy the last time I put the car back together and just took them out of the box and slapped them on.

A nice afternoon, so I decided to do a little carb tinkering (QF 950). It's always been a little fat at low speed, low load (where it needs to be lean) with a 10.5 power valve, so I swapped in a handy 7.5. That may be just a hair late at low speed cruise, although 15.5-16 AFR doesn't hurt anything with the gas just barely cracked. And of course the slightly late-opening PV won't affect the all-important hard acceleration. I need to order an 8.5 valve ;)

Also decided to stop driving myself nuts trying to fine-tune the bottom end of the fuel curve (there has always been a lean stumble at low rpm at the very beginning of the transfer slot). The stock pink cam definitely wasn't right. Tried a black one for early squirt, but it doesn't shoot enough for the thirsty 451. The blue cam is on my old carb (4780-2 800 DP) and I didn't want to take parts off it, so I put on the green cam. That covered up the hole nicely - now I can barely feel it. WIth a 4-speed I don't have a loose converter to crutch the big cam while putting around. :realcrazy:

Took the "Golden Oldie" out for a little road trip to see if the newly installed floats are in fact floating. The car drove great and feels like it may be a little more responsive than it was before all the carb troubles. Did about 20 miles to build my confidence. Going to take another trip tomorrow (weather permitting) too!

Yesterday's tomorrow is today. I took a nice drive up to the little town where my in-laws lived. Put another 40ish miles on it today. All is well!

Got the Barracuda lined up on Thursday. Cleaned , polished and hand glazed it Friday morning and took a couple small test drives. WOW!! what a difference in the car. It steers , handles and most of all stops better than I expected. Friday was my 57th birthday and I took my Lady to a nice dinner and we took the car. Snapped a couple pictures in front of the "castle" before enjoying some delicious prime rib.

Shakespeare's Restaurant!
I got engaged to my lovely wife there a couple of decades ago when we lived in 'da 'Burgh :)

Barracuda looks great too

340 short block coming along. Also new guides and valve job almost done on the J heads. Nothing radical here - just freshening it up for the 71 Demon 340. This one is using the old "Hemi grind" purple shaft hyd cam. Thought I had the 284/484 cam for it but nope, that was in my 383 back in the day in my Charger.

My AM radio was not working, decided to take a look at it. Removed the radio, connected it from the battery. Found out the antenna's coaxial cable point was broken, fixed it. Still not working, no sound, decided to connect the radio to a different speaker and started working. Went ahead and ordered a 4x10 speaker from Amazon.

When I was under disconnecting the radio, discovered a black wire that melted its plastic insulation. Going to the "P" alternator wire. Don't know how long it has been like that, this car has been with me for less than a year.

My alt. quit working,it gave no hint of any problem the other day when I was checking my charging system and battery on my AVR tester. Now I have to fart around with removing that March alum pulley and press it on a new alt.grrrrr
I'll post up pictures when it's all done...

Warm up for a early morning departure.

Another show in the morning and hope for the same as the last outing with lots of Mopar wins!

Pretty crappy looking this am, overcast and drizzle. Turned into a really nice fall day though!

Car show wrapped up at 2pm which left me "us" a couple hours to cruise, another Best Mopar award and just got home.

My Lovely Wife enjoyed the country cruise and pondered why she does not go out with me more often! This is what it is all about!

Local car show (175 cars). We left just before the skies opened up. Great fun and found a new Donkey’s cheese steak place, right in Mt. Holly! The original, world famous Donkey’s is in Camden (still there). What a fabulous cheese steak (if you like onions)!

Cool, That color on a early A, well not sold! To each their own though!

removed the soft 7/8 bore M/C from the B2000 beater pickup and cleaned the internals. Looked great bore wise but a bunch of black rust flakes (or something) came out. So after giving up on buying another one cheap (they are not) I just cleaned the seals and put it back together. Bled the back (only one side had a bleeder port, other was a straight crossover) and then the 2 fronts and got a hard pedal back! Pumped out lots of dark green brake fluid....Nice when a fix is 'free'.

Last cruise-in of the season for the West Plains Car Club. It was supposed to be 9-3... I couldn't get there until 1, but when I drove past the parking lot at 12:20 it was packed. Some had already left by the time I came back with the Dart, and by 1:30 they were all gone, Next year I'll have to make sure I can show up in the morning!

There were two nicely restored Buick Grand Nationals, one with an intercooler and bigger turbo, and one stock. Also two El Caminos... and one early 60's Valiant, and my Dart! ;)

Got Vixen's engine and transmission back in after fixing a leak at the oil pan gasket and replacing her flywheel ring gear. She should be a happy girl now. Probably get her popped back off tomorrow.
