hi fellas, im wanting a wider tire for a set of 6" cragars i have for my 74 dart. now it has 195s on. i want to go to a 225 or 235 /60 / 14. will a 235 go on a 6" rim?

Yes, it will fit perfect! The biggest radial tire they make for a 14 inch wheel is a 245/60 R14, that will also fit.

It will fit and I have run a 245-60-14 on them but with that size you are pulling the side wall in. I have 225-70-14s on the back of mt Dart, they are a bit wide for a 6" rims also. a 215-70-14 is probably the biggest size that is recommended by the tire manufactures for a 6" rim.

I have the same or a similar question regarding my 1967 Barracuda Notchback.

I currently have 195 70-14 on 6" front and 225 60-14 on 7" rear.
I was thinking of moving the 225's to the 6" wheels up front and buying a set of 245 for the rear. Will this work?

According to this chart:

http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs/radial-t-a/12.html

It looks possible, but the max width for both wheel sizes. Has anyone successfully done this? I also question how well the 225's will fit in the front.
Any insight would be great.

The 225/60-14s ought to fit fine on the front. I have 235/60-15s on the front. It is more than 3" larger in diameter than the 225/60-14. It is close, but nothing rubs.

I guess the only way to tell is to put one of the 225's on one of the 6" wheels. If I have time this week I'll try one. I wonder how bad the sidewalls are going to bulge?

I have 235/60R14's on the 14X6 slots on the back. The center of the tread wears out FAST if you have the tires fully inflated (35psi on the BFG's that were on there)

I mounted a 225/60-14 on a 14x6 wheel, at 36 psig the outer sidewall looked good and the tread seemed fairly flat. The inside side wall did bulge slightly. I think I'm going to go with this on the front. I plan on getting a set of 245/60-14 for the 14x7 rear wheels. Any comments on this setup???

215 is going to be the widest recommended by the tire manufacturer's, as stated above. I wouldn't go over 225 with a 6" rim, your tire life and handling will drop off too much after that for it to be worth it...

ive ran tires on small rims and small tires on big rims and never had problems either way.maybe not an autocross set up but 245s on a 6 or 7 isnt a problem

I must be missing where it is stated above.

P225/70R14 Rim Width Range (inches) 6 - 7.5

I know this seems to be pushing it. If I can find where BFG states 215 is the largest then I will buy a set of 215's

When I went shopping for tires for the Barracuda back in 2000 the minimum recomend rim width by Goodyear for these 235/60-14 tires was 6". The ralleys are 14x6" and the tread has 50k miles. I now have 15" rims with much bigger tires on the rear

Adam R already mentioned it... But I think we were both just talking from past experience and not a specific manufacturer's spec.

Keep in mind that's a 70 series tire. Since the series gives sidewall as the % of width going to a 225 wide 70 series will give you a taller tire than what was original, a 225/70/14 will give you a 26.4" tall wheel. The higher the series the more sidewall, so you end up being able to run a wider tire because the sidewall has more flex (not necessarily a good thing). I did notice they also list a 225 for a 6" in the 60 series, which is fairly generous for a manufacturer recommendation, but I guess I'm still getting used to running 14 and 15" rims with a high series tire (my old srt4 ran 17" rimes with 45 series tires, biggest for a 6" on that is 215).

Also each manufacturer is different. If you want a set of BFG's, I'd go by their recommendations. You can usually run the next size above those recommendations without too many ill effects, but I wouldn't go higher than that.

I copied the wrong line last night.

P225/60R14 Rim Width Range (inches) 6 - 8

Not: P225/70R14 Rim Width Range (inches) 6 - 7.5

Thanks for picking up on that. I am using 225/60-14's
