Game four was an anomaly. In able to rest their better pitchers, L.A. virtually conceded the game before it started. Remove the game four stats from the graphic, and it would look very different. Adding errors would be telling also.
Entire seasons are full of anomolies, that's why I turn the radio as soon as the stats dorks start droning. That's also why I laugh My balls off, even at My own local team, when they pull a pitcher that's cruisin' 'cause..."His pitch counts gettin' up there, & I like this pitching match-up/the numbers" & the reliever promptly gives up a double, then loads the bags & serves up a grand salami.....

I miss the pitchers batting. You had the whole other aspect of leaving your cruising starter or yanking him for a double switch. If the pinch hitter gets a hit and drives in runs fine. If the reliever keeps cruising, also fine. But the chance of it all blowing up in the manager's face with a strikeout or double play grounder by the pinch hitter and the reliever getting shelled was a fun part of the game now gone forever. IMHO, about the only real good to come out of the DH is it allowed Jim Abbott to pitch several years in the majors.

Managers sure liked the pitcher hitting rules. More flexibility. But like all sports. Rule changes is to promote more offense. More scoring? More sales.

Former neighbor Dino Ebel. Dodger coaching staff. We was just kids at the time.

Lowering the mound, juicing the ball, and ignoring when the players juiced themselves is all part of the same. Football changed rules in 1978 to achieve more scoring, too. All to attract the casual fan. I don't believe either game was improved.

I don't really mind the universal DH. Best thing they did was implement the pitch clock. That cut average game time 25-30 minutes if I remember correctly.

I liked seeing the pitcher hit, being in Ontario Canada we always had the DH. IMO the dh was a one dimensional player. Having the pitcher hit added an extra element to the game. Kinda like chess vs checkers. Seeing a pitcher get a hit, take a walk or even a Homer was pretty cool.
Pitch clock, I can either take it or leave it. It's like telling hockey players they can only have possession of puck for a certain period of time before the opposing time gets it.
Mound visits yes, I agree with that limit.
People squawking about a 3 hour sports game need to find some other form of entertainment. Or dvr it and fast fwd.

True... Although we're starting to see the DH rule used to give a player a rest day from the field, it did allow for some players to hang on a couple more years where they might have had to retire or leave baseball

Players in all positions are more elite then they were. 1st base for example for the hard hitting lards(for most part) are now way better athletes.

Yeah. Back then you had to put your power guy at first base and pray nobody hit the ball that way
Or 3rd, Pedro Alvarez, "El Toro".... then all of a sudden, He forgot how to throw the ball. I felt bad for Him, but every time the ball was hit to 3rd, EVERYBODY held their breath.....and there it goes..into the stands....bounced & off-line...& only 2 basic modes of at-bat outcome..HR or SO. And an avg. the Pirates just couldn't justify keeping Him. Traded straight to an AL team as a DH.
