Your first car.

-
'69 Road Runner, 383, 4-speed. Bought it used and abused in '72. Looking back that wasn't the best car to have bought. Biggest problem was it had air shocks which had broken the shock mounting bracket which the PO bolted the broken ends to the floor pan which in turn started ripping the metal apart. I also had to get the tranny and rear end rebuilt and put in a new clutch. I ended up selling it when I bought a new '74 Duster. And no, the RR is not around anymore. The guy I sold it to totaled it when he crashed it into a guard rail.

NOT my first car, but my first Mopar! It was 1986 and I found a 71 Charger RT, perfect original paint, straight, rust free, wing, 15 x 7 Rallyes, bulge hood console Auto. The seller had pulled its original good running 440 and sold it for some $$ because he could not get $1000 for the car.. Someone gave him a good running 400 for free and he dropped it in. ha
I gave the $1000 and I admit I probably had no real idea what it was worth other than the fact I gave $1000 for a 68 442 survivor the year before. Every Mopar guy at the time told me 71 Charger RTs are worthless in our hobby. Better get a 70 E body, they said, so I I hauled home a 70 318 Challenger with a trasplanted 440, running driving rust free car for $500! Might have over paid again, this is 1986 ya know.
I sold that 71 Charger RT for that $1000 to the second looker, the first guy saw a door ding and passed. A 5 year old could have pushed it out with his finger!! I wonder IF any of these types of car genuis think about such now days!?? The list is long.

My first car was a 1971 Charger SE, power everything; seats, windows, steering, brakes with a 383 Magnum and AC. It belonged to my Grandmother who bought it new.
Later I put a broken superbee hood and rattle canned it black over the yellow. I still miss that car a lot. I was looking for a decent 71 or 72 when I bought my barracuda instead

My first car was almost the families 73 Maverick - thankfully my sister trashed it to much and my dad sold it

1963 VW Bus
Bought it for $500 bucks. I didn't know anything about cars and drove it with some stupid red light flickering on the dash. Was sitting at a light and some guy tells me I'd better put some oil in based off what he could hear. Being a genius teenager, I gave him the F** You and romped on all 50 hp. Made it about 2 feet and blew a rod out of the block without a drop of oil coming out. The guy I bought it from felt sorry for me and gave me my money back. Wish I'd kept it, sadly probably worth more than my Dart is today.

1975 Plymouth Valiant Brougham 2 door Slant 6.

A typical winter driven Ontario car. I made the mistake of getting the underbody industrial sandblasted and it ruined the car. It was never the same after that.

I came around a corner on my street in the winter, slid and hit the curb which tore the upper control arm away from the frame. Rather than repair it, I parted it out.

I would love to buy another ‘75 Valiant so I could re-live 1987.

My Dad’s 1981 Olds Toronado is in the back ground. I remember when I was around 17 years old my Dad left me his car when my parents went on vacation. I laid a beating on that car. It was floored at every green light. I manually shifted the transmission to redline at every opportunity.

My Dad gets back from vacation and asked me “what did you do to my car!”.

I just about crapped myself and gingerly replied “nothing.......why?"

He says “I thought maybe you changed the plugs because it’s idling much smoother”......

1983, a 1973 Gremlin X with a 360 from an AMX, 4 speed, twin grip in primer gray, shackle kit, the tube thrush mufflers spiral green shag spiral carpeting. Oh yeah.

My first was in 1997, a 1970 Duster. It was BL1 Sand Pebble Beige, B7? blue interior, 198 slant. A car that I am still mad for selling. I haven't seen/heard of another that color combo.

My first was supposed to be a Sunfire Yellow 69 notch with a transplanted 340. Looked good on the outside, complete rust bucket underneath. So I found a little less of a rust bucket 70 Gran Coupe convertible in a salvage mag. Bought it in Tonica, Illinois in September of 88. Dad and I fixed it up, had it ever since.

When I was 15 years old my dad brought one just like this one home from the used car lot. except for the wheels. Same color and trim. 318. He says get a job and a hair cut and it's your's ! He had it for a week , he drove it to work and came home one night and said , It's too nice for you, Gonna teach your mom to drive and give it to her. So I got a damn 65 mustang six cylinder. Well my mom never learned to drive so he sold it my sister , Then a few years later I bought it from her ! One of many I got rid of I regretted.

The old get a job and cut your hair !
I hope you didn't cut your hair for a ford mustang 6 banger !

1941 Plymouth. $100 in 1966, but I had to share ownership with my brother - big mistake. He drove it to death and by the time I got it, it burned about a quart of oil per 100 miles. Parents made me sell it for - $100. Second car, but mine without my brother, 1951 Plymouth I bought from my folks for $100. Rebuilt the engine, had the seats reupholstered and painted it yellow. I drove the wheels off of it till 1972 when I bought my 71 Cuda.

My first car was a 1967 Firebird Sprint 6 4 speed - red on red with a white stripe. I loved the look of that car, and it ran good too since the PO had blown up the OHC 6 and put in a 400 Ram Air III. Great thing was, everything else was left alone - still had the 6 cyl. hood and side call outs, 4 speed and rearend gears, factory CI manifolds, and even a single exhaust! it sounded like a sewing machine until I got on it and I only lost one stoplight-stoplight race...to a guy in a 70 Roadrunner 440.
Two years later I got my second car - a 69 GTX auto with A/C. I think my girlfriend loved it even more than I did, because it had air, the only reason
she was lukewarm on the Firebird. Yep, good times!

No pictures but it install in the family (my son has it and restoring it): 1948 Kaiser Special

Second car 1961 Plymouth Blevedere 2 door hardtop, slanty and 3 speed

My 69 Camaro RS since the age of 16. The first pic is with my Dad, the day we drove it home from TN to NE Philly. Two cousins owned it prior to me; they both kick themselves in the *** for selling it off. One sold it to buy a 240Z, then the other sold it to me to buy an 86 Mustang GT. The second photo is my Dad and son with it last year.
It's still a project, I need to finish putting the hideaway headlight doors and such back together but it's been fun!

Yep, that's me in 1974, headed to senior prom in my parent's 1970 Dart, which I bought from my Dad when he went to trade it in on a 1975 Dart 4 door.

Damn that car looks great in silver, or is that gunmetal? Either way I think it's sharp! Grandma had excellent taste!

First car was a 53 Chevy 2 door, no motor or trans, paid $10 for it and sold it for $20. First running car was a 69 Fury but it was pretty beat. After that it was a blur of various cars and pickups up to current day; some 75-80 vehicles later.

....

What colour was your ‘75 Brougham? Dark chestnut (T9), Sienna (T5) or Cinnamon (T4)?

69 coronet 500, 383 4 speed. Sold it for $1200 to pay the fines i got driving it so I wouldn't go to jail...lol
Got to burn off a couple sets of tires first!!

Hey Daddio

Is the scoop trim on your car factory (black with no chrome 340 emblem)?
It did not have a 340 emblem & best to my memory the trim was black. That pic was taken back in the 80s. Car is long gone because I was stupid & got married to young. Building a 72 H Code Duster now.

1967 Dodge Coronet. 4 door; was like a garnet red / black vinyl. Loved that car , got t-boned by a Camaro Halloween night 1979 in a McDonald’s lot.
Insurance totaled It. Wish I had it now, of course it was fixable. What did I know , I was a dopey kid. Bought a 46 Plymouth business coupe next for 150 bucks. Flathead 218 with overdrive.
Drove that Florida to Newyork. Still got it, but 392 powered now.
