1972 Dodge Colt

No way.. those webers are cool as hell.. might just take some time to dial in
Don't get me wrong, I love them.
But they are a PITA to tune and understand how they do what they do.
In the future I will post what I am looking at with them right now.
But they look Italian Sexy!

Built a heat shield to isolate the carbs from the headers.

Your not a hack!
The Webers have stud mounts on the bottom that can be used to support the carbs.
I just got some 10 MM bolts, cut some spacers and mounted the plate.
Won't make a difference in a Drag Car, but I don't think it will hurt.
And if I drop a jet or screw it should hit the plate and it should be easier to find!

That's small town livin right there. Very cool. We're just a few miles from the coast near Charleston so a lot more hectic round here.
We had friends visit us for the Eclipse and they were from Myrtle Beach.
They moved down from MD a few years ago.
They talked about the changes.

Of course living near Dallas is no walk in the park.
Take care.

Went through the carbs today and changed a few jets and the float levels.
I have been looking at the Weber books and I want to see if these changes will show up in E.T.
Also I had not been adjusting the fuel pressure like I should.
It seems that the pressure moves around from week to week and I have to chase it.
Webers are very sensitive to pressure.

I have to go to Ohio next week for family issues.
I will run it after I get back.

Also going to re-install the Tamer and see if I can get it tuned to launch.

Just back at it for a bit.
I want to thank @19DART66 for offering advice on the clutch tamer tuning.
Now that the pedal is better, this might work.
I take quite a beating over at /6.org about 5000 rpm clutch drops.
You know, the ones I don't do.
I have been under the rear suspension measuring and checking to see why it goes right on launch.
I don't see anything wrong or out of adjustment.
So I added one round on the drinkers side Koni coil over.
Just a touch of pre-load, they were both the same.
Also going to tune the drivers side tire pressure, maybe go up 1 or 2 lbs.
I changed the Emulsion tubes and the Air Correction jets based on some book learning.

AFR Gage is on order, going to see if that helps tuning the Webers.
Also digital tire pressure Gage.

The "drinker side" coil over, do you need an adult beverage for that adjustment? LMAO!!!

Got to the track last night for T&T.
First run was my best ever ET and right at my 87 MPH which seems to be the new norm.
8.241 which looks like a 12.9 converted to 1/4 mile numbers.
60 foot is still soft, I need to chop at least a half out of that.
So that is my first 12 second run with a slant six.
Only took me 50 years of messing with slants off and on to get that done.
Goal has always been an 11, something.
Good to have a goal that is out that far, gives me something to sweat about in the shop.

Second run was a bog big time.
I don't have the pedal stop on the clutch pedal so I think I hit the tamer at a different spot and.....
I launched at 4500 last night on both runs, first was fine, second, bad.

I pulled the plugs after the first run, 1,3,4,6 were the slightest bit lean, 2 + 5 were sooty.
The AFR gage was a complete waste.
Pegged lean below 2K and then under power it's 12 to 15 and moves all the time.
Real hard to see the value of that "tool" right now.

Ran two cars in the test and ran them both down, that felt cool to overtake some slower cars!
I should be working on reaction times, but I have been staging and then bringing up the RPM.
I need to see what putting a 2 step in would take.
Can't do it with my 6AL as far I can tell.
Here is what it looked like when I showed up.
I was hoping no one else would show, WRONG!
You would think 96 and the cowboys playing would have kept them home!

Plugs 1 is right.

Back at it.
Great thing about the Colt is you can take most of the car apart to work on it.
Bad thing is you have to take it all apart to work on it!
I spent the afternoon getting stuff off the engine.
Tomorrow the interior comes out to remove trans and bellhousing.
Then the engine can come out.
Then the Autopsy begins!

Stan, I found this picture of your header setup. I think you would need a foot or more of collector extension in order to stop air feeding back to the sensor and giving you false readings?

I wish!
It has been a 1.9 something one time, but that was just a blind squirrel finding a nut.
The 60 last night was 2.0x something like that.
My friend with his 3000 pound Valiant auto car cuts 1.7ish 60 foot times.
This 2200 lbs. car should be doing 1.5 times.

Still a night at the track is better than sitting hime :)

Yes that is what the experts tell me.
I really can't put long tubes on it the way it is now.

So the bung is in the collector on 1-2-3 and I installed the 90's to keep the exhaust off the brake and clutch master cylinders.
The headers angle down and the car is so low in front there is not much room.
A lot of folks have said the 1.75 tubes are too big too so maybe I should just make some new headers with a 6 into 1 and a long extension that I can tune.
But driving the car with the 6500 shift light and Rev limit, it just wants to keep going.

I need to use Google AI to tell me what to do.
NOT!

You are right!
All day Sunday I had butterflies in the pit of my stomach.
But when I got to the track that all went away.
At 69 years old, its not easy going to the track.
That is why I have an enclosed trailer, to give some shade and a place out of the weather.
I can remember in my 20's I flat towed to the track hours away and humped all day.
Seemed so easy back then.
I am truly blessed.

I really appreciate all you guys and gals reading all my posts.

I used to flat tow my buddy’s 68 340 Dart with my 68 Ranchero back in the day….also I just turned 72 so I can relate.

That O2 is basically reading (1)cyl. + whatever reversion puts into that part of the merge, the lack of collector extensions are hurting Your launch at that low an RPM, I know it's a tricky dance in there..

Yea, everyone is saying the same thing.
Going to do some more testing after I build the clutch stop.
Higher RPM I guess is coming.

I wonder how I pulled that 1.9 60 foot (not that it was very good) out of my hat before.
Must have been the clutch slip/RPM match and a few stars that aligned.

6300rpm launches are the key :)
