Intermittent Backfiring After New Head Gaskets

First off, thanks, folks. Y'know how oftentimes it's something simple...? After two weekends of frustration in 100 degree Texas heat... Turns out, even though I had the plug wires clearly marked before tear-down, the passenger side plug wires were installed by my (still learning) 16-yr-old son...

Intermittent Backfiring After New Head Gaskets

First, I SUCK at diagnostics. Been wrenching/reading for decades, but I’m just not smart enough to do much more than replace parts until the problem goes away or gets better. But I’m out of ideas here. My car is a ‘67 Dart, 273 (former 2bbl) auto, stock aside from an SP-2P intake, 500 cfm AVS2...

    Convertible trunk mat/sound deadening

I agree. I've looked into buying a weighted, sound-deadening blanket of some kind, and trying to figure out how to hang it at the front of the trunk, to better seal the trunk sound/noise from the passenger compartment. I don't expect "new car quiet" by any means, just better than it is now.

With LoJack dead in the US, what is a classic car GPS tracking alternative?

I use an Apple Airtag. I removed the built-in "speaker", and hid it in a magnetic case in the car. Works great for me, and no ridiculous subscription fee. Will it inform me if the car is stolen? No, that's the job of an alarm system. But the app let's me know where the car ends up when it's...

I eventually will. Just haven't done so yet.

    Math Question

Okay, my Dart originally had a 2.92 axle ratio. I've since swapped to 3.23's, but haven't changed the speedo gear yet. I believe that this means my speedo and odometer are approximately 10% off. My question is this: When calculating MPG's, would I add 10% to the result to correct, or subtract...

    Street shock absorber recommendation

I hated my KYB's. Trashed them when I tried the Bilsteins. SOOOO worth the extra $$$$ in both ride quality and handling. No more KYB's for me.

    Considering relocating to Texas

First off, I don't think the thread should've been locked. Having said that, I come here to learn about/discuss Mopar A-bodies. Heck, we're not even technically here to discuss Plymouth Fury's, much less other makes/models, so why do you think this is a good place to chat about big life...

Awesome A-body air dam for under $30!

Got my Ranger spoiler installed in 20-30 min. Drilled bolt holes, tucked the sides inside the fenders, done. Wish it was 4-5” longer down each side, but I think it looks great for the money. And if I damage it on a curb, just buy another!

What size "key" is used to make adjustments? I've tried a few sizes of hex wrench, and haven't been able to fit the screw in my vacuum advance.

    Slant 6 stroker kit?

The references you're seeing are regarding using a 198 rods with a 225 crank, with 2.2 four-banger pistons. Referred to as a "Long Rod" engine, a "Non-stroker Stroker". Displacement remains about the same, but this moves the pivot point in the piston and allows the use of lighter, (more) modern...

Denso Alternator brackets Pre 1970 small block

I'm using the 60amp Denso, but FWIW, I used the OEM alternator brackets and added washers/spacers to get proper pulley alignment. It's a little tedious, but no big deal. Mopar 1967-69 small block engine Alternator Mounting Kit 273 318 340

    Considering diy door panels?

For you guys who are making (or have made) your own panels: How are you attaching them to the doors? Since the original clips are sandwiched between two layers of board, I'm trying to decide how best to deal with mounting. Thx!

Thanks for all the confirmation/tips. I’ll connect the “sense” (fused) to the battery. I was also considering utilizing the indicator light output. I can’t think of a good reason not to...

    Parking Brake Cable Replacement

I'm trying to replace the parking brake cable in my '67 Dart convertible. I finally got the old broken cable out, after lots of cursing. How in the f@&k do you get the new cable threaded blindly through all the damned twists and turns of the frame near the torsion bar crossmember without...

[WANTED] Ram Van Magnum power steering bracket

FYI, an alternate idea is to find a replacement PS pump for said Magnum engine on Ebay. Many pumps removed from salvage vehicles leave the bracket on the pump and are sold complete. That's how I found mine, and a lot easier than finding the bracket by itself.

Anybody running the RMS AlterKation? Was it really worth the cost?

I completely understand and respect your position, and the position of others like this. I think the point is that we all (or most of us) draw the line somewhere. For me, suspension, rear axle, and even transmission are all fair game. My line is the engine. That's the heart of the car. As long...

Looking for other Mopar geeks in Dallas area

Sounds good. I just got my old 67' convertible back on the road after 10 years, so I kinda know how you feel! I've got some previous commitments this Sat., but maybe the 20th? Irving's around halfway between Carrollton and S. Grand Prairie. Maybe we could meet someplace near 183 for lunch?

Alignment shop says they can't get over 1 degree positive caster on 73 Scamp

Dealing with this right now: My 67' Dart convertible is at the local NTB for an alignment. They aligned my '72 Swinger a few years ago and did a GREAT job, I think they got -.75 camber and 3.0 caster IIRC, – except they charged me $140 for a "custom" alignment because I furnished my own specs...

Audio Speaker Configuration for 67 Dart Convertible

Planning my system in my 67' Dart convertible now. I'm worried about both the sound and the lack of security, since a thief can just cut the top to gain access. I've decided to use a bluetooth amplifier (hidden) to play Pandora from my phone, the same as I use in my 2015 Mazda daily-driver. That...

Looking for other Mopar geeks in Dallas area

I live in Carrollton, and I'm always willing to help on other peoples' cars, even if it's just another set of eyes or moral support that's needed. The wife and kids keep me semi-busy, but as long as scheduling permits, I hereby volunteer my time!
