    200R4 update

In your thread (which I had already read through) you state: post #271 - "the TCI adapter in 1/4" thick and I believe the wilcap is 1/2" or 5/8" thick." post #391 - "I believe the Wilcap adapter is 3/8" thick" I was just trying to get the actual measurements, since this will make a difference...

...Least it'll look good, sound good, run good, with decent mpg. Also won't need my wallet every time it hiccups. Seen some mopar builds with 2004r and700r4 trannys. That is unless I find a mopar way. BTW, thanks. I was lookin hard at a challenger with a hemi and a six speed. All the bling...

...in "dedicated" fan to keep the fluid from getting too hot?? That way you don't have to worry about running the fluid at a low level. I run my 2004R at full as per manufacturer's recommendation. I've never had a problem, but again, I have a temp gage and it never gets above 180 degrees (non...

Or you can use a bellhousing and adapter to bolt it to your motor. The car does need some modifications, but the floor pan remains the same. US Cartool makes a crossmember kit for them now.

Highway RPM with the 200R4. Gotta love it!

Nice job! Can I pick your brain on the 200 install, especially the shifter? I have a 67 barracuda with the console shifter. I'm sure I lose 1 to 2 manual capabilities, but I'd like to keep my shifter. Also since I have frame connectors wouldn't it be easier to fab a crossmember mount for the...

I've seen it. Nice piece, but not for $700+. US Cartool says theirs will be a few hundred dollars. The 2004r kit I posted above is $199.

2004R? Is that in the same family as the 4L60E? As for adapters for the Slant, I'm doing research on that front, and when I do find one, I'll be sure to make a separate post for our members to reference to.

Are you able to use the OD gear in your TH200 at full throttle high speed? Only reason I'm asking is because when I've had TH200s an TH700s they would not go into or stay in OD past about half throttle. IIRC GM made them like that because the OD clutches and hardware were not beefy enough to...

    727 vs 904?

Neither. Go with a GM 200R4 (2004R whichever you prefer to call it), lighter than both and you gain an overdrive gear so you can use 4.10 gears out back and not drive yourself insane while on the freeway. Plus the 200R4 is all hydralic! And yes this trannies can live behind high hp/TQ motors...

New commercial mount for 2004R transmission

For some reason GM calls the smaller transmission the "2004R" but the larger one is known as the "700R4". Treblig

    727 vs 904?

But at a cost that might be detrimental to some. From the factory the 2004R was never put in any high horsepower/torque applications. Lot's of V6's and small block V8 smogger engines yes (my kids 442 is an example). Factory engineers a lot smarter than we give them credit for. Just my opinion.

...radiator (plumbed the same as yours) but a little off to the side. I live in a very hot/humid climate and according to my trans temp gauge my 2004R never gets above 180 (no matter what). It keeps the trans fluid so cool I have to give a little time to warm up because it's better for the...

Leaking issues in my 200 4R - any gurus available?

...I have Lonnie build me one. I guess they're getting harder to get cores for and I don't want to be a year from now with a busted tranny that can't hold 500+ hp,and now way to replace it. I 'm gonna drive it a lot,not just weekends. I like not trashing the floor on an A body with to 2004R. Thanks.

    Anyone running overdrive transmission?

I have a 2004R in my Barracuda. With a little bit of tunnel modification, it's a nice fit. And it has less parasitic loss than other transmissions. I do need to do a bit of upgrades on the internals of the 2004R before I'll feel safe in sinking the pedal to the metal.

    Mufflers Without a Drone

My Barracuda had an annoying drone when I drove 60/65/70 on the highway. After I installed the 2004R the RPM dropped 800 RPM and the drone disappeared. I guess my point is that sometimes your rear gear (and engine RPM) can cause the problem?? treblig

New commercial mount for 2004R transmission

John, Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to educate us about the engineering details of the new 2004R mount. Hopefully it answered some of the questions/concerns that had been posted. I'm anxious to hear the thoughts of others who decide to purchase this mount. Jeff

New commercial mount for 2004R transmission

Aww man. That mount looks great. I already decided to stay with the auto in my '71 Gt instead of converting it to a 833OD like I was planning, and had considered a 2004r already. That mount would make the whole thing a lot easier. Decisions, decisions.

New commercial mount for 2004R transmission

2004R does not require the entire cross member to be cut away, only trimmed. Less work and less messing with the structural integrity of the chassis and especially the front end. I guess I could see it on a rust resto rebuild,But on a decent or rust free,,No. Good luck though.

Relocating of the Neutral Safety Switch

I installed a GM 2004R trans in my '69 Barracuda with center console, there was no way to connect to the Mopar NSS wiring. I used a simple push button type switch mounted in my shifter to have a NSS although it will only start in "Park": Then I got a reverse light switch off another...

If you go to the Monster transmission site or one of the other High Horse Power trans builders they will list all the "juicy" parts they use when they build one for you. Just go to "stage" of transmission that will handle your horsepower and get the list of mods made by one of those builders...

Leaking issues in my 200 4R - any gurus available?

Hey there fellow 2004R swap guy!! As far as I know fluid will only burp out of the top vent if the tranny is over filled. But the rubber seal on the dip stick tube can give you a leak in front on the passenger's side. Have you tried wiping it down real good and clean/dry then when it does...
