Who else ever felt this way?

I slap fell in love with mine and it was a 170. The little car would scoot. It was very responsive. I WAS going to shoehorn a 400 in it, but I kept it a slant 6 and put this warmed over 225 in it. It puts a smile on my face every single time I drive it.

    Stock exhaust manifolds vs headers

Since the slant six is "two holes down" it's a much more systematic approach than a V8. INstead of putting on one part at a time and seeing results, the slant six needs all the systems upgraded to see good results. I had the stock manifold on mine ported and the outlet opened up to 2.5" and ran...

for what it's worth I'm extremely satisfied with my suspension rebuild which included .92" torsion bars and 6 leaf HD rear springs over my stock .85"/5 leaf springs in my slant 6 duster. work well with KYB's,not harsh at all. upped the wheel rate to 150 lb/in in the front/130 rear from the...

    64 Valiant Engine Wiring Harness

Both. It needs to be compatible with a '64 Valiant, and a V8. Like Rusty said, one for a 273 will work fine. Some vendors can modify their harnesses- for instance, if your 360 has electronic ignition, or later model alternator and electronic voltage regulator. But first, figure out why the...

Center drag link, are they really $600? 1964 dart

I'm sayin this once more, now see if it gets through. You may not need the V8 center link. I 360 swapped my 65 Valiant years ago and did not use one. I used the same slant 6 center link the car came with. Clearance was close. I think there was like 1/8" if I remember right, but this is a...

    [Found!] 63-66 A Body Z Bar

That’s good to know, I almost ordered one from brewers for the 273 because I figured it was the same. I don’t have a z bar as I got the car without the transmission, but I’m picking up an a230 from a 71 duster slant 6 on Monday, so I’ll have that z bar but I don’t think it will work.

    273 or 225?

Off topic, but if that 65 has a hood on it in decent shape, I’d buy it from you. I’m just over near Sacramento. I’m building a 225/4 speed 65 Dart, if I wanted to go V8 I’d start with a 318 magnum from a junk yard vs the 273. JMO.

    Coverting from a slant 6 to a 360.

Welcome to the site! To put the the V8 in there, you'll need adapting motor mounts/or a V8 K-frame. You'll need a form of V8 exhaust (be it manifolds or headers). The slant six electrical wiring will work (distributor, oil pressure gage, alt wires, etc) but the lengths may not be exact...

    273 or 225?

if you *really* want a V8, then at least that's a convenient way to get all the V8 specific parts for the swap. but unless it's a commando spec or already hopped up 273 it's not gonna be all that much better than a warmed up slant, and any hot rodding to the early 273 is going to cost more...

It's no wonder the Slant 6 is so great!

This nicely sums up my thoughts as well. I am well aware building a slant over a V8 is no cost savings, gets you less performance, and is a lot more expensive to hop up. However I can't help but like them, have built two, and intend to drive them till they drop.

    273 or 225?

Really depends on what you want to do. If you want the car to be more of a muscle car type, the V8 is nice. If you want a great driver, its hard to beat the slant. I have both in 66 Darts. I like them both. My slant has been built enough to create some nice HP, but not radical. The 273 is stock...

    No Valiant Love?

Bought my first day after x-mas -78, raced it a lot, fast thing with its slant that I don't have much clue what was in it but I won over a few V8 Mustangs... never liked the ones from -67 & up so exept for a sad -75 I only had the ones from 1960 to 1966. Here's my first: (later on I put a Hemi...

Factory Torsion Bar Diameter for '65 Formula S?

65 A body torsion bars, generally: .83 slant six .85 standard 273 V8 .87 Formula S and anything else with rally suspension I'm sure there were exceptions, but every one I've ever dealt with had one of the three bars above. I put .87s in my slant six Valiant, .89s in my 65 Barracuda 340, and...

    /6 rebuild advice

The only thing about the slant 6 is, it will never be a V8. You can turbo it, blow it, nitrous it, but it will never be a V8. That said, there are some record breakers out there, but they are some NASTY little engines and not "real" streetable. Slant 6 guys build them for the love of the engine...

    63 Dodge Dart wheel change

Parasitic drag is real. You want to dog that slant some more, put a set of heavy 15's, and heavier rear end in. If you are planning a V8 swap( which is harder in a 63) great. But if you are planning on sticking with the slant, I would suggest some 14x5.5 steel wheels, and keep the 7.25. .02...

I'm Cummins swapping a '74 Duster, thought I'd share the progress.

I'll be the one to state it. This is a terrible idea. You're installing an engine in a car that already has a 55/45 front weight bias and literally doubling the weight of the engine. The frame rails and structure were designed for the slant six or LA series engines that weighed 600 lbs or less...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

Yes and no, for some reason, 39-48 dodges and Plymouths just don’t sell or move fast. Even the Chevys and Fords from that era struggle to move. It’s not as bad as the 78-90 period of cars but I’d say it’s second worse when it comes to value and selling fast .

The 1.03’s won’t be too stiff. If the car is bottoming the suspension now it may very well ride better with the 1.03’s than it does with whatever it has now. The only “trick” to larger bars is a good set of shocks- RCD Bilsteins, RideTech, Hotchkis etc. Just stay away from KYB and you should...

    66 Dart 360 Swap Questions

Some slant 6's (mostly A/C cars) came from the factory with 22" radiators too (part number 2582929). Some had 3 row cores too, which would be even better than the standard cooling (2 row core) that came with the 273. They could be used with a V8 by changing the inlet and outlet connections (and...

    Slant six dipstick length

I hesitate to say, as there may be differences between front sump, center sumps and rear sump.. I have a rear sump oil pan, and my dipstick tube broke off.. so I got a V8 dipstick..changed the oil, so I would know for sure how much was in the oil pan,... and then scribed new marks on the...
