    Slow 1/8 with 74 440 dart

I agree, there should be more vacuum with a (relatively) small cam in a 440. The [email protected] cam in my 451 pulls 8" at idle! Also, forget you ever heard that "PV needs to be half the idle vacuum". Holley just told people that to give them a starting point but it's rarely correct except for stock...

15x10 steel wheel with 7.25" backspace?

Sounds promising... but do the bolt pattern and center opening match our Mopars?

Don’t modify the exhaust on your mopar

Today I saw another article on this issue... apparently when reflashed, the ECU writes a tamper code to the body control module (which I guess the tuner didn't know about, or care). Anyway the car owner went as high as VP level and was shut down every time, so now he's pulled his posts and...

What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Drove 42 miles to Mountain Home for a cruise-in/car show despite the showers forecast. Fortunately they were wrong and it was sunny, but 90F and humid makes for a hot day on a black asphalt parking lot. Free grilled hot dogs and a door prize too :) The Murphy/Walmart gas station next door had...

    Valve Cover Gaskets

No one has mentioned yet that the bolt holes on stock heads aren't drilled perpendicular to the rails. That's what makes it so hard to get any gasket to seal well regardless of what kind of cover.

And don't forget being able to R&R the intake manifold without draining the coolant ;)

Don’t modify the exhaust on your mopar

From the article, the manufacturer has a different story: "He says the mid-muffler and entire emissions system are stock. But this is where things start to get confusing. You see, Dodge says this isn’t about the mid-muffler. Dodge says, “The warranty claim was rejected after a Stellantis...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

I don't recall ever seeing (or hearing) about the possibility either! Learn something new every day. But I don't think it's happening simply because the 3000 rpm cruise AFR is over 15 with #71 primary jets (and #86 secondary which do not appear to be in play)...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

Let me know what you find out! I think your memory matches mine (holes in line with the t-slot)... I bought the carb with the holes from Brad Haak, who knows a thing or two about Holley setup ;)

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

Interesting idea, thanks! I hadn't thought about that possibility... but is that quantity of air really that substantial through .100 holes at 15" vacuum? The primary throttles are open further, at highway cruise, so I would think almost all the airflow would be going through those bores as...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

Which was exactly my point... the displacement and camshaft didn't change when I swapped heads. Compression went up just slightly (maybe 0.3 point)...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

Thanks... I am not surprised that jetting is likely to change, along with main air bleeds, since the new heads allow a lot more air in to make more horsepower :) But as I asked initially, with the throttles closed except for idle air, I would not have thought that the (maximum) head flow would...

Which A-bodies do big blocks fit best in?

On my low-deck '72 with B-body headers, the left side plugs are easy and reached from above. Since I have a motor plate and the alternator up high on the right, #2 and #4 are best reached from underneath. #8 is easy from above. Notice I didn't mention #6 either :realcrazy: A 1-1/2" hole saw to...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

No nozzle drip, I looked for that. It doesn't start until much higher rpm... if they were, I'd expect to see a rich idle AFR too.

Which A-bodies do big blocks fit best in?

'67-up has a larger engine compartment than the early A's. The lowdeck is easier to install but still a royal PITA, true. But it's worth it when you hit the pedal. I wouldn't trade my 451 for anything unless it was for a 470 or a 499 :steering:

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

Have you actually looked at the baseplate on a Holley? The secondary t-slots are not at the same height relative to the baseplate, they sit higher in the bores! Do I have to show you a picture? The secondary t-slots aren't making much of a contribution since they are not exposed at all until...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

Square on primaries. The secondary t-slots are way above the throttles compared to the primaries, and aren't involved. Air comes from the secondary adjustment, four .100" holes in the throttles, and the adjustable PCV. Trying to remember if this carb also has the bypass needle screw in the air...

What all do i need to take to machine shop?

Well... it's not my money I'm spending here ;) But the rod bolt is one of the most highly stressed fasteners in the engine, and that is an area I would concentrate on making sure it was right... if a bearing spins or a rod breaks, the labor and expense to repair the mess would have made it worth...

What all do i need to take to machine shop?

This may be obvious to some, but when pressing out rod bolts and inserting new ones, check the big ends for roundness. Sometimes they will distort a surprising amount (or may not have been correct in the first place).

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

The PV does nothing at idle since the mains aren't flowing! I've run as high as a 10.5 and as expected, it has no effect on my idle AFR at all. But it was too rich at light throttle because it opened too soon. What makes it even harder to tune is the 8" at idle, but 15" at cruise. Most street...

What all do i need to take to machine shop?

The ones in the picture (of everything spread out) don't look like BB A-body manifolds to me... but the real thing is going for low four figures (383) and even more for the rare 440 ones. Are you sure someone actually gave a pair away with a core engine? If so, sell them and you can not only buy...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. Idle and transfer contribution is a small part of the total fuel flow when all the main jets, especially the big secondary ones, are flowing...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

Thanks for the interesting article. My engine and cam are a little larger than that 425 so I think a 650 would be too small no matter what... I am also surprised that the 650 gave the best 330' performance, but not surprised that it was too small at the eighth and, as they estimate, would still...

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

I said at the start of this thread, I was only asking if all circuits will need to be changed. I have that answer. I don't give a CRAP what you think about my idling "too high". It works for me and everyone else who has run this cam. Your stuff is not my stuff and every combo is different.

Retune my entire carb after installing new heads?

I didn't notice any difference on the butt-dyno in low- and mid-range performance when I went from an 800 to a 950 (once I dialed it in). But a smaller carb may cost enough power that it kills some of the increase from going to good heads! This is the first I've ever heard of "compression...
